The combination of nature, history, culture, cuisine, and hospitality makes this iternary a wonderful introduction to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. Highlights include: two nights in Petra, deservedly designated one of the modern world's Seven Wonders; a private visit to the American Center for Oriental Research facility in Amman for an opportunity to observe archaeological restoration work in progress; the Dead Sea for a salty experience unlike any other; an exploration of Jerash, one of the best-preserved Roman cities; a 4-by-4 drive through the Wadi Rum desert's sweeping dun-colored expanses, otherworldly rock formations, and ancient hieroglyphs, hosted by Bedouin tribesmen; a hands-on cooking class at "Petra Kitchen"; meetings with Jordan's hospitable residents; and an opportunity to hike in the scenic Dana Biosphere Reserve.
