The magnificent Black Sea region is still new territory for many visitors - an intriguing irony, since so many pivotal events of world history have played out along its margins, from the fall of Constantinople to the fall of the Soviet Union. After sailing from Istanbul, explore Bulgaria's historic town of Varna. From Constanta, Romania, fly north by chartered plane to see the astonishing 15th-century painted churches of Moldavia. In Ukraine, visit Odessa, Yalta and Sevastopol, crucible of the Crimean War. This voyage includes a stop at the citadel of ancient Amasya on the seldom-visited northern coast of Turkey before returning to Istanbul.
Pre-cruise extension: Istanbul
