Service on the YAA Board

YAA Board members support the work of the association by direct involvement in and leadership of board committees; initiatives such as Careers, Life, and Yale; and other Yale alumni-led volunteer organizations. Responsibilities include attending board and committee meetings held four times a year (September, November in conjunction with the Assembly, February, and late April), typically in New Haven. Board committee work continues between meetings, by telephone, email, and in-person meetings from time to time.

Each spring, YAA Assembly delegates vote to elect six alumni from the delegate body to serve three-year terms on the YAA Board of Governors. All current delegates – appointed, at-large, and ex officio – are eligible to be nominated for the slate and to vote in the election.

The nomination period for the board term running July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027 is now open. Delegates with several years of experience as a delegate or in other volunteer roles are encouraged to self-nominate. Candidates who are nominated by another volunteer will be asked to confirm their willingness to be considered for the slate and to review the information submitted on their behalf.

Nominations for 2024 are now being accepted; please submit your self-nomination by the extended deadline of February 9, 2024 via this form. Candidates will be considered to serve a term from July 1, 2024 through June 30, 2027.

The Board of Governors Nominating Committee, composed of sitting delegates, is responsible for reviewing candidates and selecting a slate. A member of the committee will interview each candidate by phone to complement the written nomination information.

The committee meets in February or March to deliberate and choose the slate. Current delegates who are interested in serving on the Nominating Committee may contact YAA.
