Michael Morand ’87, ’93 MDiv

Michael Morand is currently Public Relations & Communications Officer at the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library. A graduate of Yale College in 1987 and the Yale Divinity School in 1993, he began work with the University in 1993 in the Office of the Secretary. He was associate vice president of Yale for New Haven & State Affairs from 2000 to 2010, responsible for local government relations and partnerships for community development.


From 2010 to 2015 Mike served as Yale’s Deputy Chief Communications Officer. In this position he was an enthusiastic catalyst for Yale’s robust efforts in social media, and he worked tirelessly with University departments and alumni organizations to improve and maximize their presence on social media. He chaired Yale’s Social Media Summit in New York City in January 2014, and continues to enjoy speaking to Yale Clubs and other alumni groups across the United States.


Long active in the public and nonprofit sectors, Mike has served as a New Haven alderman, on the Connecticut Judicial Selection Commission, the Connecticut Conference of Independent Colleges, and the national Urban Libraries Council. He recently was board chair of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce and president of the board of governors of the Elizabethan Club of Yale. He serves now as vice president of the New Haven Public Library.
