Class of 1958 Chicago Mini Reunion
Thu, 09/15/2011 - 6:00pm - Sun, 09/18/2011 - 12:00pm

Dear 58 Classmates and Friends,

In March we sent out a save-the-date notice about the Mini Reunion in Chicago, September 15-18, 2011.  We are hard at work on the final schedule. This will be a memorable event for all who attend.  We already have a good number of classmates who have indicated their interest in attending, and we would like you to join us!

Why Chicago and why September?  This is a great city and a great time of year in Chicago!  The city has world class architecture, art, historical sites, restaurants, and most importantly, we have planned a great program with unique perspectives from our classmates on critical issues, plus plenty of time to reflect together on our individual journeys.

Face to face interaction with your classmates will be the highlight of this Mini Reunion even with all of the fantastic activities scheduled including:

    A tour of Millennium Park in downtown Chicago - a privately funded $475 million park improvement in the heart of the city overlooking Lake Michigan.

    Private tours of the Art Institute of Chicago with its extraordinary collection of impressionists and old masters, modern art and sculpture.

    An architectural tour of the city by boat up and down the Chicago River.

    A visit to Oak Park to see Frank Lloyd Wright residences and institutions.

     Class Dinner featuring a jazz performance by Big Time Sarah.

    And most importantly, hearing from your fellow classmates:
o    Sherm Bull will lead us off Thursday night with his incredible account of his ascent to the summit of Mt Everest.
o    Linden Blue will discuss how he escaped from a Cuban Prison days before the Bay of Pigs and his subsequent experiences in aviation and supervision of the Predator drones now being used in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Libya.
o    Marv Zonis will discuss the outbreaks in Egypt, Syria, Bahrain, Yemen and the situation in Iran  and the implications for us all.
o    Larry Minear will share his experiences researching and writing his recently published book, Through Veterans Eyes (the Iraq and Afghanistan Experience).
o    There will be plenty of time to talk together, informal and personal, 2 hours each day, so we will get to hear about many individual journeys.

The cost of the Mini Reunion will be $500 per person including all meals and beverages, entrance fees, tours, buses, and entertainment.   For those unable to attend all events, the fee will be adjusted accordingly.  Please return the enclosed registration form and be sure to indicate your choice for the Saturday afternoon tour.

We have reserved a block of rooms at the Whitehall Hotel, a boutique hotel off Michigan Avenue. The rate is $199 per night.  Please contact the hotel directly at (312) 944-6300 and ask for the Yale Class of 1958 room block.

For those who will be flying into Chicago, there are two major airports, O'Hare and Midway, with transit trains to the city at each airport that run very frequently, plus plenty of taxis.  We will have buses for travel in the city, any walking will be 3-4 blocks to restaurants or events. The weather should be good, warm in the 70's and 80's and cooler at night. Casual attire, Saturday evening dinner will be coat and tie, otherwise comfortable clothing.

We look forward to seeing you in Chicago!
