Class of 1960 Water's Edge Pre-50th Reunion Event
Mon, 05/31/2010 - 11:00am - Thu, 06/03/2010 - 11:00am

Dear Classmates and Friends of the Class of 1960:

The positive response to our earlier polling has convinced us to proceed with a Pre-Reunion Event at The Water’s Edge Resort and Spa on the Connecticut seacoast. Important in planning of this Event has been to provide an extra dose of leisure time for casual interaction as well as the opportunity to share our thoughts on some of the important world issues of our time. Please note that follow up visits and negotiations have led us to choose The Water’s Edge in Westbrook, CT, which is a change of venue from our earlier letter. Should you have made an advanced reservation at The Saybrook Point Inn, be sure to change it!

We believe that the Pre-Reunion Event is a wonderful complement to our main activities in New Haven and is tailored to satisfy the many requests over the years for more social time without the pressure to take in the myriad of tempting offerings always provided by the AYA. Regrettably, our Class-specific programming time in New Haven must be limited to accommodate these important general University offerings. Accordingly, with the luxury of ample time provided by our Pre-Reunion, we have selectively recruited several Classmates and Professors, for whom we would not normally have time, to share insights they have gained through their career experiences.

The Schedule of Events that was included in the mailing, highlights the currently hot topics organized to elicit discussion in both seminar and class panel formats. We are even planning to alert you later to some appropriate reading material for those who might like to prep for participation. Please note the program as it is now planned. We expect to make additions, especially as we receive commitments from Yale professors and other Classmates. Should you want to participate as a panel member, please let one of us know.

However entertaining and thought provoking our line up of programs promises to be, it would be a shame not to take advantage of the wonderful resort facilities waiting for you at The Water’s Edge Resort and Spa. A peek at the website will tease you with the first class amenities that are available for to you enjoy.

Some of our attendees may opt for sampling a rejuvenating and therapeutic luxury session in the world class Spa. Others may prefer some overdue time on the private beach or by one of the two heated pools. Of course there’s ALWAYS shopping in the quaint shops and boutiques close by.

To add a little more variety and change of pace to this Event, we thought that many would enjoy a dinner cruise on the lower Connecticut River in lieu of Wednesday evening dinner at the resort. Since this area of Connecticut was Katherine Hepburn’s favorite retreat, we’ve selected Lady Katherine Cruises and their elegant yacht Mystique with its superb accommodations for everyone who wants to come, rain or shine. A peek at the website should convince you to sign on.

We trust you will agree that this “something for everyone” prelude will be a very special supplement to your wonderful memories of our long awaited 50th Reunion celebration. Please complete the Pre-50th Reunion Registration Form that was mailed to everyone and return it promptly to allow us to complete our arrangements.

Some have indicated a need for transportation to The Water’s Edge from New Haven. We are presently working on arrangements for that, so please contact one of your Tri-Chairs if you need help getting to the Resort.

For room reservations, call (800) 222-5901 or (860) 399-5901 and ask for the Yale Class of 1960 Room Block to save your place ASAP. If you have not made your reservations for the rest of the week in New Haven, you might consider staying at Water’s Edge, which is only about a twenty five (25) minute drive to the campus.

We look forward to greeting you.
