Warming up for 2013’s 50th reunion of our class, your Northern California classmates are pleased to invite you to a San Francisco Mini-Reunion, August 18 – 21. In this mailing you’ll find a registration form, a schedule (or, at least, a tentative one) of events, and a description of some of the planned activities. This event has been planned to give you as much time as possible with your classmates and as much flexibility as possible in your schedule. Please register no later than July 1, 2011. While we will make every effort to accommodate late registrations at any time, some activities may not be available.

Reunion headquarters will be the historic landmark San Francisco Palace Hotel (, conveniently located in the heart of San Francisco.  We’ve negotiated a discounted rate of $199.00 per night (plus taxes) for the nights of August 17 through August 20, and the rate is available to you for three days on either side of the mini-reunion dates. A brief run-down of the reunion plans (details elsewhere in this package):

Our Palace Hotel hospitality suite will be open all day on Wednesday, August 17, for reunion registration and information and as a gathering place for arriving and local classmates to meet. Located near our reunion meeting room, the hospitality suite will be open every day of the reunion for anyone who wants to gather there.

Thursday, August 18, is really a “pre-reunion” day during which you’ll have your choice of two unique Northern California experiences – a day of sailing on San Francisco Bay or a Napa Valley art and wine tour. Both start with ferry rides to their starting points and end with ferry rides back to San Francisco. No special evening plans have been made for Thursday, giving you a free hand to experience San Francisco’s world-class restaurants. We’ll help with recommendations and reservations.

Friday, August 19, will start with a morning of panel discussions on topics such as the U.S. role in world affairs and the state and future of the economy. Panelists, guest speakers, and details to be provided in a few weeks. In the afternoon classmates and workhorse organizers John Hagedorn and Jon Larson will host, respectively, a tour of San Francisco’s de Young Museum and its visiting Picasso exhibit and a tour of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area and the majestic redwoods of Muir Woods National Monument. Both tours will end in Tiburon, for a dinner on the San Francisco Bay waterfront followed by a ferry ride back to the city.

On Saturday, August 20, the morning program will again be discussions, but this time of subjects of more personal interest – the issues and experiences of being 48 years out of college. Saturday afternoon has been left open, so that you can explore San Francisco on your own, relax and socialize in the hospitality suite, or just catch a nap in preparation for the evening’s activities. Late Saturday afternoon we’ll rendezvous at the home of Ken and Sally Porter for a casual dinner. Those of us who want to extend the dinner hour into the evening can stay at the Porters’; others will have the opportunity to enjoy Shaw’s Candida at Orinda’s California Shakespeare Theater. All will re-gather for the trip back to the city.

Sunday August 21, will be a good day to rendezvous casually in the Palace’s famed Garden Court for a fond “au revoir” until our 50th.
