Yale Club of Italy | Walking Tour with Jeffrey Blanchard ’77 MPhil featuring Bernini and Borromini Rivalry on the Quirinale Hill

Professor Jeffrey Blanchard ’77 MPhil, Head of Cornell University School of Architecture in Rome, will guide us through Rome focusing on the fascinating artistic rivalry - and dialogue - between Gian Lorenzo Bernini and Francesco Borromini on the Quirinale Hill.

The Quirinale area contains some of the most extraordinary architectural and urban interventions of Baroque Rome, where the contrasting temperaments and artistic visions of Bernini and Borromini can still be experienced almost face to face. With Jeffrey as our guide, I have little doubt that what might otherwise seem merely beautiful stones and façades will quickly come alive with stories of patronage, ambition, genius, and rivalry.

The walking tour will begin at 9:30 AM and conclude around 12:30 PM (with a coffee break of course). Following the tour, those who wish to continue the conversations in suitably Yale fashion will be warmly invited to join us for lunch nearby.
