      Reading to Kids is a grassroots organization that works with the Los Angeles School District in 8 schools to inspire a love of reading for K-5 students. On the 2nd Saturday of each month, students participate in reading clubs with a monthly theme.

      • Volunteers are paired together to read a designated book and then do arts & crafts (materials are supplied).
      • Volunteers will be provided with training that morning; each grade has a Grade Level Coordinator who will provide additional tips and information.
      • No preparation is necessary; a tip sheet with suggested (not mandatory) discussion questions, vocabulary, and arts & crafts is provided.  

      Minimum Age: 18

      Registration for the May 11 program will open on or shortly after April 14. Once you register, you can pick any school you like. After you pick a school there is a drop down menu to select "Yale University" in the group section.

We'll be helping out at P.S. 124 (Yung Wing School) – named after the first Chinese student to graduate from an American university (Yale Class of 1854). Yale alumni families and friends of AAAYA have volunteered at this school since 2007. Activities may include organizing and cleaning out closets, as well as clearing gardens and outdoor space around the school. Plan to arrive at 8:30 for sign in and intros over coffee. Volunteers will serve as ushers, assist with setup and breakdown, and help run activities for young children in attendance. The annual Elevation Awards Brunch gives young adults from RightWay's programs a moment to celebrate everything they have achieved during their time in our programs and the future ahead of them. The RightWay Foundation provides foster youth who are aging out of the foster care system with the resources they need to thrive and build a better tomorrow, grounded in mental health, launched by supportive housing, and solidified through employment and community. RightWay is dedicated to ending the cycle of trauma that leads foster youth to unemployment, homelessness, incarceration, and poverty.       Join volunteers from the Land Trust of West Haven, Inc. to help with a beach clean-up. All are welcome, including children if accompanied by an adult. Come to the Park/Rec Activities Building in Old Grove Park on the Bike/Walk path between Oak Street and Alschuler Plaza any time between 9-11 AM. 

      There is parking in either Oak Street or Alschuler Plaza lots and paid parking along Palace Street. 

      Gloves and trash bags will be provided. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be canceled and not rescheduled.
