The Art of the Ask — Miriam Droller, Kimberly Kicenuik Hubbard, Kimberly Ueyama, CCS Fundraising

Fundraising is a personal business. Development professionals are detectives, gathering critical bits and pieces of information to build meaningful request strategies. In this webinar, we will review best practices for the “ask” – from preparation, to the ask itself and reacting to a donor’s response.

Getting the word out for a broad campaign
How to run a broad campaign
      Approaching Big Donors
      Corporate Entities

Join Miriam Droller (Yale SOM ’07) and Kimberly Kicenuik Hubbard (Yale SOM ’09) from CCS Fundraising for a discussion about the art of the ask, moderated by Kimberly Ueyama (Yale SOM ’16). CCS is a strategic fundraising firm that partners with nonprofits for transformational change. We plan, manage, and implement programs that achieve fundraising goals and mission impact.

As women navigate the job search in STEM fields, they often have to overcome the implicit biases that have knowingly, or unknowingly, impacted and continue to impact them throughout their careers. Thus far, the conversation of equity tends to only involve those who have already faced these hurdles directly. To rectify this, several campus groups, with support from our Careers, Life, and Yale program and Yale alumni panelists, will host the 3rd annual Equity in the Job Search Symposium to expand the conversation regarding women in STEM to a wider audience and impart the idea that everyone benefits from, and can act to cultivate, inclusivity. Attendees (graduate and professional school students; and post-doctoral candidates) will gain:

      1. Knowledge of implicit bias research and tools to overcome bias
      2. Resources for navigating the job search

Typically, discussions of gender bias and career advice are relegated to separate forums, despite heavily affecting each other. This event fills a need at Yale to bring together the different offices and organizations working on diversity for an event surrounding the job search. This event brings together representatives from the Society of Women Engineers, Women in Science at Yale, the Society for the Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science, and Women in Physics. By focusing on the job search, attendees interact with those who have personally experienced gender bias. Integrating practical career advice with a data-driven discussion of gender bias will not only better prepare attendees for navigating the job market, but empower them to reduce gender bias in their labs and workplaces.
