Yale Day of Service: PR, San Juan - Centro Esperanza School Improvement Day
Participants will spend the morning supporting Centro Esperanza, a local community organization dedicated to providing educational support, safe spaces, and enrichment opportunities for children and families in Loíza.
During this hands-on service activity, volunteers will work together on improvement projects that help create a more welcoming and inspiring environment for the children who attend the center.
Activities may include:
- Painting and refreshing common areas
-Cleaning and organizing indoor and outdoor spaces
-Improving the children’s playground
-Helping maintain gardens and green areas used for learning and recreation
These efforts directly contribute to creating a safe, beautiful, and stimulating environment where children can learn, play, and grow.
Optional Donations (Greatly Appreciated)
For those who wish to support the center further, the following donations are especially helpful for their educational and recreational programs:
Educational Supplies (Montessori-inspired preferred):
-Montessori learning materials
-Sensory toys and fine motor skill activities
-Puzzles and early learning games
-Educational flashcards and workbooks
-Art supplies (crayons, markers, paint, paper, craft materials)
-Children’s books (Spanish or bilingual)
Sports & Recreation Equipment (K–3rd Grade):
-Soccer balls, basketballs, playground balls
-Jump ropes and cones for activities
-Hula hoops and outdoor play equipment
-Small goals or sports training gear
All donations help expand the center’s ability to provide enriching programs and safe recreational opportunities for local children.
