We will be returning to "The Hub" to participate in a food gleaning and sorting activity. Ravenswood Ave., Chicago, IL 60640 Day & Time: Saturday, June 6, 2026, 11:30am-3pm Central Time Sort through donations of food and non-food items arriving at Nourishing Hope's food pantry warehouse. Check items for quality and box by item type. Help keep the warehouse clean and organized. Volunteers need to be able to stand for the majority of the shift and occasionally lift 15 lbs. Closed-toed shoes are required. Volunteers are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing - something that can get a little messy.       Our project was with Habitat for Humanity of Kent County (Michigan). On Saturday, June 6, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm we did exterior trim and painting and interior paint, trim, cabinet installation, and flooring for a row of new construction housing. Our site was 444 Pleasant Street SW, Grand Rapids. We had 15 Yale alums, family, and friends.

The day will be filled with music, dance, history, storytelling, and – of course – FAMILY! Volunteers will support the hundreds of visitors visiting Angel Island State Park. Angel Island was the site of a U.S. immigration station from 1910-1940 and processed an estimated one million people, mostly from Asia. Chinese and other detainees left poems and other writings on the wall during their detention. Family Day allows visitors to explore the Immigration Station and learn about immigration history, and the Yale volunteers will help support this event. For more information, visit www.aiisf.org. Volunteer tasks Set-up: Setting up pop-ups, tables, chairs, and more. Requires folks to be at the Tiburon staff boat by 8:00am Event Visitor Services: Supporting performers, catering, greeting visitors Take-down and cleanup: Taking down pop-ups, tables, chairs, and more. We will meet at 8:00 AM at Auditorio San Pedro, where volunteers will gather before heading together to a designated cleanup area along the river. We recommend wearing comfortable clothes, long pants, and closed-toe shoes, as well as bringing sunglasses, a hat or cap, sunscreen, insect repellent, snacks and water. Once again, Yale Club of Austin and Yale Blue Green are teaming up with our friends at Onion Creek Park Neighborhood Alliance (OCPNA) for an environmental justice service day. Turning climate awareness into action — we'll come together to serve the community most impacted by the historic flash floods of 2013-2015, working toward the future of this greenspace as a place for people of all ages to rest, gather, and grow. This year, we're hosting a "working brunch" where we'll collaborate with OCPNA on long-term strategy and funding to revitalize the greenspace. We'll come together in roundtable fashion to work on the sustainability of OCPNA's efforts to transform this greenspace into a community orchard. This year, we'll focus on Grantwriting, Fundraising, and Outreach. Our 2026 Yale Day of Service is dedicated to our late president and longtime Austinite Ana Mejia Dietche (YC '84), honoring her legacy of local impact leadership through arts, education, and collective care. If you're a grantwriter, entreprenuer, environmentalist, or just eager to get involved — there’s a place for you here. We encourage Yalies to invite friends and family, the more the merrier! When: Saturday June 13th, from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Please arrive a few minutes early to sign in. There is a food demonstration on the Urban Farm that day and we invite all volunteers to stay for that afterwards. What to bring/wear: Dress depending on the weather, closed-toed shoes required, hat suggested, long pants suggested. Water will be available. Gloves, tools, hats and light snacks will be provided. Sun block and insect repellent are also available. We Supply: Water, Gloves, Tools, Instruction and Light Snacks. Project: Native Habitat Restoration -- Help us improve our 20 acres of restored natural areas. These habitats comprise wetlands, forests, and meadows. The natural areas provide essential wildlife habitat in New York City as well as important ecosystem services such as cooling, carbon sequestration, and climate resiliency. Teams will work to remove invasive species that can degrade the habitat and plant native species to support human and animal communities. Where: We will meet at a location TBD, most likely our Urban Farm, which is located at 11 Wards Meadow Loop 10035 next to Fields 60-63 and Scylla Playground. If you take the M35 Bus from Harlem, get off at the Hell Gate Circle/Opp Odyssey House stop. We also have plenty of parking and our location is accessible by bicycle or Citi Bike. Additional Info: All participants must sign a Waiver of Liability. Minors under 16 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Please inform us if any accommodation is needed. Volunteer events run rain or shine unless the weather conditions are severe. Restrooms are available. We do not have storage for your bags so please try not to bring too many personal valuables.
