On March 16, 2026, Yale Day of Service brought a meaningful touch of community to the Yale Club of New York City during a sold-out evening with President Emeritus Peter Salovey’s Professors of Bluegrass band.

As part of Yale Day of Service, we invited attendees to create something simple but meaningful: hand-decorated cards for Citymeals on Wheels recipients. Many of these individuals live alone, and for some, these notes are a rare reminder that someone is thinking of them.

The response was truly heartening. Throughout the night, a steady stream of concertgoers stopped by to write messages of kindness, encouragement, and care. Together, we created over 50 cards, each a small gesture of thoughtfulness and human connection.

Yale Day of Service is the university’s annual celebration of service, with Yalies banding together each year to give back to their local communities. Participate on May 9 or any day your community can gather. Check out our project page to find an event near you.
