Increasing Education Access in Underserved Youth Communities: A Conversation with Yale-Jefferson Service Award Recipients

Horowitz is a highly decorated classical violinist, having studied at The Julliard School and the Yale School of Music and performed with world-class symphony orchestras. In addition, Horowitz is the founder and Artistic Director of the Heartbeat Music Project, an organization that provides ongoing music education for Navajo (Diné) youth in grades K-12 in New Mexico. Horowitz recently joined the faculty in Mount Holyoke College’s Department of Music as Professor of Violin.

Minev founded Open Labs in 2012 to open pathways for underrepresented and underprivileged young scholars to pursue careers in the sciences. The organization has now reached thousands of students and families across the northeast U.S. Minev’s research in the quantum computing field has been recognized nationally and internationally by 50+ mainstream media outlets.

Tuski is the director of development for provost initiatives at The University of Texas at Austin. In his role, he builds relationships with alumni and friends of the university to raise funds in support of student success initiatives, graduate fellowships and the division of Diversity and Community Engagement. Ian spent the early part of his career working as a music educator, including establishing the first classical guitar program at Del Valle High School. As a volunteer, Tuski serves on the boards of the Young Nonprofit Professionals Network of Austin and the Austin Emerging Arts Leaders.
