Yale Career Panels: AI and Data Services graphic

This event is the 57th in a series of events covering different professions and career issues. There have been 47 Yale Career Panels, 9 Yale Career Fireside Chats and 1 Yale Career Conversations events. Organized 11 years ago by a group of Yale alumni volunteers, these panels strive to provide candid, unvarnished views of featured professions. These panelists will be able to share their perspectives about the current state and future of these two important sectors, how they are segmented, the career opportunities that are available, and what you should know and consider if you are pursuing a career in these sectors.

Although artificial intelligence and data services have been important and attractive professions for a long time and have impacted many industries, both have received a great deal of attention recently as major advances in both fields have powered tremendous business opportunities. The recent release of ChatGBT by OpenAI is just one example of rapid advances in the field.

Topics:

• What are the major segments of AI and Data Services from a career perspective?

• How are those segments different from each other and the different careers in each?

• Where are these professions heading (good and bad) and will it vary by sector?

• How do you get into these professions and what is the typical career path?

• What are the myths versus the realities?

• What are the characteristics of people who tend to do well and are happy in these professions?

• What types of people tend not to do well or end up unhappy and why?

• If you don’t stay in these professions until retirement, what are the exit routes to other professions?

The panel discussion will be broadcast via an interactive streaming video platform that will allow Yale students and alumni to ask questions of the panel and interact with each other. There will be a 45 minute networking period after the one hour panel where all of the attendees can see each other and mingle.

The organizers of these Yale Career Panels are Justin Kosslyn ’09, Julie Sohn ’14, Trish Takemoto ’76, and Peter Young ’74. This panel was organized by Peter Young ’74.
