Join us for an interactive livestream conversation with Mark Foster ’19 MF to discuss fire management on public lands. Mark is the acting district ranger on the Pinedale Ranger District for the Bridger-Teton National Forest in Wyoming. He is also Firefighter Type 2.
Drawing from his experiences working on wildland fires and supporting prescribed fire projects across the Wyoming landscape, Mark will discuss both prescribed and wildland fires, the federal policies around these different management regimes, and how the two regimes interact. He will contrast these first-hand experiences with more general issues, covering not only the traditional environmental aspects of fire management but also the socioeconomic effects. Additionally, he will touch on innovative efforts and landscape scale approaches land managers are deploying to facilitate resilient landscapes that can continue to provide a diverse range of resource benefits in the face of a changing climate.
