CLY W2 House 3.2.23

Want to discuss an award-winning idea for downtown New Haven? Inspired by a team that includes Yalies? Join us for a candid discussion with alums from the Yale School of Architecture (YSoA), along with Principals of Centerbrook Architects and Planners.

W2 House building proposalCenterbrook hopes that its idea will further transform New Haven’s downtown green, while also helping Yale alums. During our Thursday virtual gathering, you’ll get to hear and discuss the design and urban planning aspects of the idea — from the architects’ perspective. The proposal would transform a former bank building (on the northeast corner of the green) into a multi-purpose events/lodging venue for Yale, Yale alums and New Haven, bringing together the community, the University, and alums from all walks of life – singers and non-singers alike (see below!) – in true harmony.

Conceived by members of the Yale Whiffenpoof Alumni Association, the multi-purpose design would also help Yale alums. Named W2 House (think: Whiffenpoofs and Whim’n Rhythm) the proposal garnered the 2022 American Architecture Award from The Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design and The European Centre for Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies.

What happens next? Tune in Thursday to find out. It’s your special chance to hear directly from Centerbrook and their client on the ups and downs of a potentially transformational idea.

J.C. Calderón ’92 MArch, YSoA alumnus and YAA Board of Governors Member, will moderate.
