Careers, Life, and Yale Thursday Show: Pioneering Sustainable Finance & International Development with Aniket Shah ’09

Managing Director and Global Head of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Sustainability Research at Jefferies Group LLC, Aniket Shah ’09 works with national governments, global financial institutions, and non-profit organizations on financing the sustainable development agenda. With a doctorate at the University of Oxford’s Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment, he is a Senior Fellow at the Columbia Center for Sustainable Development and serves as an advisor to the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (SDSN). He has led the charge in this forward-thinking area at UBS, Oppenheimer Funds, and Investec Asset Management.

Aniket serves on the International Board of Amnesty International, a role that began as a student in 2002, and previously served as the Chair of the Board of Amnesty International USA.  He is a member of the World Wildlife Fund USA National Advisory Council and The Economic Club of New York. 

His first book, Club Expat: A Teenager’s Guide to Moving Overseas, co-written with his brother was published before Shah had even finished high school. It was during that period when as the child of a telecommunications engineer he was uprooted from Pennsylvania to Munich to India, and the contrast between these worlds ignited his passionate commitment to human rights. Aniket is a frequent contributor to Institutional Investor’s Global Market Thought Leadership series and is widely published, including Africa and the United States – A Defining Relationship of the 21st Century, a collaborative report between Investec Asset Management and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, and Learning from the World: New Ideas to Redevelop America.
