Careers, Life, and Yale: School of Architecture, Then and Now

Please join us this Thursday evening for a unique discussion with Yale School of Architecture alumni who helped shape the School's seminal Building Project program, now known as the Jim Vlock First Year Building Project. The Building Project has been offered to first-year MArch I professional degree students since 1967 and is a unique chance to design and build a structure as part of their graduate education.

The earliest projects were outside New Haven and included community centers in Appalachia and a series of camp buildings in Connecticut. Recently, partnerships with Habitat for Humanity, Neighborhood Housing Services, Common Ground, Neighborworks New Horizons, and currently Columbus House have led to a focus on affordable housing. The houses allow students the experience of working with a client and the opportunity to respond to the challenges of affordable housing and urban infill.

Join us as we hear from School of Architecture alumni and their experiences with the Building Project. The show will be moderated by alumnus J.C. Calderón ’92 MArch.

The show is dedicated to Paul Brouard, ’61 MArch who passed away on April 3. We'll have the chance to share stories about Paul, who worked for 40 years and with over 2,000 students as Director of the First Year Building Project. We will be joined by Paul's wife of 44 years, Linda Brouard.
