Katherine Hill, Class of 2004, the author of two novels, The Violet Hour (Scribner 2013) and A Short Move, (Ig Publishing 2020), which was a New York Times Editors’ Choice. With Sarah Chihaya, Merve Emre, and Jill Richards, she is also co-author of The Ferrante Letters: An Experiment in Collective Criticism (Columbia University Press 2020), which won the PROSE Award in Literature from the Association of American Publishers. Her fiction, essays, and reviews have appeared in numerous publications, including AGNI, The Believer, Bookforum, Colorado Review, The Common, The Guardian, The Literary Review, n+1, The Nation, The New Republic, The Paris Review Daily, Philadelphia Inquirer, Post45, Post Road, San Francisco Chronicle, and Tin House. Katherine is an assistant professor of English at Adelphi University, where she teaches creative writing and literature to undergraduate and MFA students. Her writing has been awarded fellowships from the New York Public Library, Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and the Corporation of Yaddo. Bea Setton, Class of 2016, is publishing her first book, Berlin. The synopsis is as follows - A young woman moves to Berlin to turn over a new leaf. Things begin auspiciously: Daphne has means and brains. She rents a flat in fashionable Kreuzberg and becomes rapidly fluent in German. She makes friends amongst the heterogeneous band of young people who flock to Berlin in pursuit of its promise of a liberal lifestyle. A true child of her age, she hangs out in coffee shops and hooks up with men on dating apps. However, a series of mysterious and violent incidents transform what should have been a chapter in a joyfully misspent youth into a fight for survival.The demons she thought she had left behind seek her out in her new life. This novel charts Daphne’s undoing with dark humour and closely reflects the challenges and triumphs of coming of age in the 21st century
