COVID-19 Webinar: How A Novel Emerging Infectious Disease Impacts Local, Global, and Future Health

Dr. Cindy Hou '96 is an infectious diseases physician and serves as the Infection Control Officer with Jefferson Health New Jersey and Jefferson Medical Group. She is the physician champion for the New Jersey Hospital Association's Antimicrobial Stewardship Collaborative and an advisory board member of the Sepsis Alliance. Dr. Hou is fellowed by the American College of Osteopathic Internists, the American College of Physicians, and the Infectious Diseases Society of America.

Saad B. Omer is the inaugural Director of the Yale Institute for Global Health, and a Professor of Medicine and Epidemiology at Yale University, Schools of Medicine and Public Health. He has conducted studies in the United States, Guatemala, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and South Africa. Dr. Omer’s research portfolio includes clinical trials to estimate efficacy and safety of maternal and/or infant influenza, pertussis, polio, measles and pneumococcal vaccines and trials to evaluate drug regimens to reduce mother-to-child transmission of HIV. He has published over 270 papers in peer reviewed journals and has mentored over 100 junior faculty, clinical, and research post-doctoral fellows and PhD and other graduate students.

Dr. Dorothyann van Rhijn is Chief of Employee Health at Yale University. She trained in primary care and started at Yale Health treating patients in the Employee Health Department for occupational and acute injuries. Since 1989, she has been the Chief of the Employee Health Department for the University. She serves on numerous University level committees, including the Biological Safety Committee, University Safety Committee, and chairs the Infection Control Committee for Yale Health. She has a particular interest in zoonoses and the intersection of animal and human health, and oversees the occupational monitoring function for the University's Animal Research Program.

Dr. Jamie Wells '96 is the Chair for the Yale Alumni Health Network and is an award-winning Board-certified physician. She has published over 400 articles as the Director of Medicine for an educational advocacy nonprofit in support of evidence-based medicine and science, and she writes, speaks and is interviewed as a medical expert on multi-media platforms. She is Adjunct Professor at Drexel University's School of Biomedical Engineering, Science and Health Systems, the nation's first degree program in pediatric engineering.
