Kicking off a series of sessions hosted by Yale Alumni College and featuring The Glimmerglass Festival, join acclaimed director Francesca Zambello, who is the festival’s Artistic and General Director, for a conversation about Opera.
An opera director is in charge of the big picture, but she is also in charge of a lot of details. In addition to thinking about the most compelling and engaging way to tell a particular story, a director must take into account the constraints and opportunities of the producing company.
Francesca Zambello has worked in every imaginable situation — from shoestring touring companies to the great opera houses of the world. In this conversation, she will speak about the essentials of a director’s craft, creative and practical, whether mobilizing casts of hundreds and tons of scenery or putting a show on its feet in a week.
