USS Constitution, the world’s oldest commissioned warship afloat, has stories to tell Yalies even today, from the War of 1812 to current day Yale. One centers on Admiral Grace Murray Hopper ’30 MA, ’34 PhD., who retired aboard USS Constitution in 1986 and received the Museum’s then highest honor, the Samuel Eliot Morison Award. On September 27, 1986 Admiral Hopper was named an Honorary Trustee of the Museum.   

Join Museum President Anne Grimes Rand and Chief Development Officer Ed Sevilla ’82 for a virtual USS Constitution Museum question and answer session, and a virtual tour of the Ship led by an active duty US Navy sailor. There’s plenty to learn and see at the Museum and aboard America’s Ship of State!

Anne Grimes Rand

Anne Grimes Rand

Anne Grimes Rand is President of the USS Constitution Museum, located on Boston’s Freedom Trail and welcoming over 350,000 visitors each year.  Award-winning exhibits earned a Leadership in History Award for engaging all ages. An avid sailor, Rand received a B.A. in Maritime New England Studies from Dartmouth College and an M.A. from Brown University.  Rand has served as Curator, Deputy Director and Executive Vice President at the Museum.  During Rand’s tenure as President, the Museum entered the TripAdvisor Hall of Fame and received Charity Navigator’s top 4-star rating for six consecutive years.  In her free time, Rand prefers to be afloat with her family.

Edward Sevilla

Edward Sevilla

Edward Sevilla is the Senior Vice President and Chief Development Officer for the USS Constitution Museum. He joined the Museum from the leading national philanthropy consulting firm Grenzebach Glier + Associates (GG+A), where he served as Senior Vice President and a member of the leadership team. While at GG+A, he worked on capital campaigns whose goals ranged up to $3 billion for education clients such as Dartmouth College, McGill University, the University of Rochester and Vanderbilt University. Sevilla holds a BA in U.S. history from Yale University and an MBA in marketing from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. Earlier in his career, he served as a U.S. Foreign Service Officer in Hong Kong. USS Constitution visited Macao, across the harbor from Hong Kong, during its world tour in 1844-6.
