Want to Learn More About the YASC in Miami 2025 Service Program?

Join us for a conversation with Catherine McCulloch '84 and Danielle Morgan '00 MSN from YASC and Victoria Varela from Lotus House Women's Shelter, to learn more about our YASC's service trip to Miami in October to benefit the women, youth, and children of Miami. Sheltering 1,550+ women, youth and children annually, Lotus House is the largest women’s homeless shelter in the country. The organization provides shelter, resources, and multi-faceted, comprehensive supportive services to help their guests successfully exit the shelter system and lead lives of greater opportunity. 

During this session, you will learn more about Lotus House and the projects we anticipate offering:

  • Halloween Preparation: organizing costumes, helping children select their costume, preparing candy bags, creating decorations using recycled materials.
  • Cleaning and Organization: working with the operations team to inventory essential supplies, cleaning common areas, organizing spaces.
  • Gardens: helping in the gardens with weeding, planting, cleaning.
  • After-school Activities: assisting with homework and tutoring, hosting a fun activity for the children.
  • Overtown Community Distribution: helping Lotus House set up, handing out items, cleaning up. 

In addition to these projects, Lotus House is looking for help with:

  •  Hosting an activity: Arts & crafts, sewing, painting, dance, yoga, mediation for adults.
  •  Hosting a workshop: hosting a workshop for adults on financial literacy, job skills, customer service, emails, computer skills, etc. Other areas of need include literacy, mentoring, wellness, CV/workforce preparedness.
