YASC in Miami 2025: Lotus House Women's Shelter

Join us for a conversation with Andrew Burgie '87 from YASC and Victoria Varela from Lotus House Women's Shelter, to learn more about YASC's plans in Miami. During this session, you will hear about our plans for a two day pilot service program in January 2025 to benefit the women, youth, and children of Miami. Sheltering 1,550+ women, youth and children annually, Lotus House is the largest women’s homeless shelter in the country. The organization provides shelter, resources, and multi-faceted, comprehensive supportive services to help their guests successfully exit the shelter system and lead lives of greater opportunity.

Working alongside Victoria, Community Outreach Director for Lotus House, we will discuss service projects including taking inventory and record keeping, landscaping and gardening, painting, culinary and other prep work. We will also discuss timing, group size (anticipated 30 Yale volunteers), registration, and other details. YASC will leverage this opportunity to explore a full length service program to Miami in the future. Andrew will moderate the discussion.

If you are interested in this domestic service opportunity and would like to join us, this is a great opportunity to learn how you can make a difference, ask questions, and get involved. This event will be recorded.
