The Gardens at Lake Merritt, a seven-acre collection of themed gardens, is conveniently located in the heart of Oakland at Lakeside Park, our nation’s first wildlife refuge.  Established more than a half-century ago, the Gardens serve as a source of great regional pride, a cultural and educational center and a place to enjoy tranquility in the heart of the city. The Gardens are poised to serve as an example of the highest standards of horticulture and historic preservation while providing enriching public programs.

Our group will  have some planting to do as well as mulching and composting in many areas of the gardens. No experience necessary. We will email you a waiver to fill out and bring with you.

Open to ALL AGES, with parental supervision.

What to Bring:
Masks are recommended and we ask you bring your own work gloves. If you have hand tools, you can bring them, or use ours.

Also bring drinking water and if it’s sunny a hat is helpful. It can get hot in some of the sunnier areas.

Directions:
Enter at the open gate a bit past the Garden Center at 666 Bellevue. If you are driving in, tell them you are volunteering in the gardens so you don't need to pay to park.

The closest BART stop is 19th St Oakland. There is also AC Transit (Bus Service) on Grand Avenue.
