Your presence at Glide sends a powerful message to the hungry persons who eat with our Daily Free Meals Program it says that you care and that they are worthy of your time and energy. The diverse group of people who regularly utilize our Meals Program include those who are homeless or insecurely housed, those whose lives have been impacted by substance use and/or mental illness, elders, and low-income families or individuals.
Serving a meal in the Daily Free Meals Program can be a transformative experience. The shift starts with clamshell prep at 10:30am, and lunch is served to the community from 12pm to 1pm. Volunteers assist with everything from plating food and sanitizing the workspace, to handing out boxed meals, silverware and drinks. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves, break a sweat, and make some beautiful human connections!
Glide is located at 330 Ellis St, on the corner of Ellis & Taylor. We are a short walk from the Powell MUNI/BART Stations
Meals Team Staff and Glide Safety Monitors (in bright yellow jackets) will be present to answer your questions and provide safety to clients, staff, and volunteers. The most important thing you and your group will do is to serve as a friendly and warm presence for our clients. The work is simple (plating food, greeting guests, making bag lunches, chopping vegetables), but the value is far greater!
Volunteers ages 13+ are welcome.
What to Bring/Wear:
We ask that you bring as few personal items with you as possible. You will be able to keep small items on/near you during your service.
Please wear comfortable clothing. Each volunteer is required to wear closed-toe shoes and shirts with long or short sleeves (No tank tops please!). During your volunteer service you will also be wearing a hair net (or hat if you bring one with you), plastic apron, plastic gloves and a face mask. GLIDE is asking all staff and volunteers to wear kn95 masks or triple layer surgical masks only. Cloth masks and other face coverings are only accepted if layered with one of the aforementioned mask types. These types of masks will be provided to volunteers onsite should you not have access at home.

All volunteers must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Please ensure that all members of your group plan to bring COVID19 vaccination verification with them. CA digital vaccination QR code, paper CDC card or photo of your CDC card is acceptable. Everyone must also bring a form of photo identification. This will be verified during check-in.
Upon Arrival: GLIDE Staff will be available to greet you at the front desk of our Ellis Street Entrance under the orange awnings.
