Alumni Mail

Info Accordions

YaleMail is a Yale-branded email service for alumni on the Google Apps for Education platform, offering a dependable, easy-to-use, fully-functional web-based email account on the Gmail platform. Users of the service can access their email from anywhere in the world via an Internet connection. You can also send emails using your @aya.yale.edu alumni address as the “from” address.

If requesting a new YaleMail account, please log into your profile within the online directory and go to the YaleMail tab at the bottom of your profile page. Click the Edit button on the right, and follow the instructions on the next screen. You will need to provide another email address to which the Google activation instructions and a temporary password will be sent.

To use the YaleMail service and have an @aya.yale.edu address, you will need to have a YaleMail Gmail account. If you used the Virtual Yale Station forwarding service but do not wish to use YaleMail, please email AYA and let us know you would like us to deactivate your @aya.yale.edu address.

Yes, you can easily forward emails sent to your @aya.yale.edu account to any address you choose. FYI for VYS users: Google requires that each YaleMail user set up email forwarding individually, so Yale was not able to set it up on behalf of alumni when creating the new accounts. To set up your new YaleMail account to forward your emails, please follow the instructions from this Gmail help page.

  1. Open the Gmail account that you want to forward from.
  2. At the top right, click the gear Select Settings.
  3. Select the Forwarding and POP/IMAP tab.
  4. Click Add a forwarding address in the “Forwarding” section.

  6. For your security, we'll send a verification email to that address. Open your other email account and find the confirmation message from the Gmail team. If you’re having trouble finding it, check your Spam folder.
  7. Click the verification link in that email.
  8. Back in your Gmail account, reload the page in your web browser
  9. On the same Forwarding and POP/IMAP page in Settings, check that Forward a copy of incoming mail is selected and your email address is in the drop-down menu.
  10. In the second drop-down menu, choose what you want Gmail to do with your messages after they’re forwarded, such as keep Gmail’s copy in the Inbox (recommended) or archive Gmail’s copy.
  11. Click Save Changes at the bottom of the page.

Yes.  Once logged into your account, go to settings (gear icon on right), select Forwarding and POP/IMAP. Within the "Forward a copy of incoming mail," select delete Association of Yale Alumni's Mail's copy from the dropdown.

Please refer to the Google instructions for information.

Our aya.yale.edu account is a Google Apps for Education account which is a subset of Google Apps for Work. If available, please select “add an account” and proceed to enter your @aya.yale.edu email address and password. If you do not see “add an account” but have a “learn more” option, please select the “learn more” at which point, you should have the “add an account” option to select.

Gmail for consumers and Google Apps for Education both run on the same infrastructure, however, Google Apps is a separate offering that provides additional securityprivacy controls for education, work, and government customers. Google Apps for Education services don't collect or use individual's data for advertising purposes or to create ad profiles. Google will never sell or share your personal information.

Please also view Google's Apps FAQs: https://apps.google.com/faq/

Yale implemented Google Apps for Education accounts for Yale College students (known as EliApps) in 2011 and has been satisfied with the service. As old infrastructure has been replaced, students in some professional schools and faculty in some departments/schools have also moved to EliApps.

With the transition, your current @aya.yale.edu address became a fully-functioning Gmail account, hosted by Google’s Apps for Education. In other words, the @aya.yale.edu email address you had previously remains the same. There is no need to update friends and subscriptions with a different email address.

The AYA staff is happy to assist with setting up your YaleMail account. We will also set up forwarding if you'd like!  Please send an email to aya@yale.edu.

Assembly

Info Accordions

The AYA Assembly is the preeminent leadership information and development program for alumni. It is actually two things: (1) the body of delegates, as outlined by the AYA Constitution, who serve as representatives of the alumni community; and (2) the annual gathering of these delegates back at Yale on the Thursday and Friday just before the last home football game in November.

Save the dates!
Assembly 2018
Thursday–Friday 8–9 November 2018

The Assembly is designed as a two-day workshop for specifically designated alumni volunteer leaders, who attend by invitation only. The volunteers officially invited are:

  • AYA Delegates. Those appointed by their constituencies, as well as At-Large Delegates selected by the AYA to represent alumni outside these constituencies. All delegates serve a three-year term. (If an appointed delegate cannot attend a particular Assembly, the constituency may inform the AYA that it is designating an Alternate Delegate in his/her place just for that year.)
  • Ex-Officio Delegates. The current leaders of recognized alumni bodies as specified in the AYA Constitution: presidents of Yale Clubs, secretaries of Yale College classes, chairs/presidents of graduate and professional school alumni associations, and the chairs/presidents of shared-interest groups (SIGs) who have been authorized by the AYA to send delegates to the Assembly.
    • Ex-officio delegates attend solely on the basis of the office they — and they alone — currently hold. If they cannot attend an Assembly, they are not authorized to designate someone else to attend in their place.
  • G&P alumni association officers. Other officers (vice-president/vice-chair, secretary, treasurer) of graduate and professional school alumni associations.
  • AYA Board of Governors members. Both current and former members of the AYA Board of Governors.
  • Leaders of AYA Initiatives. Officers of the Yale Alumni Service Corps and the Chairs and Regional Directors of the Yale Day of Service.
  • Class treasurers. Treasurers of Yale College classes.
  • SIG leaders. Chairs/presidents of AYA-recognized shared-interest groups (SIGs).
  • Officers of major-city Yale Clubs. Officers (vice-president/vice-chair, secretary, treasurer) of the seven largest Yale Clubs: New York, Washington DC, Boston, New Haven, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago.

On Thursday, the first day of Assembly, delegates attend informational and educational sessions organized around a theme, usually a particular aspect of Yale life. Sessions on Friday are focused on leadership development, and generally feature small-group breakouts and hands-on sessions designed to be useful to attendees in their volunteer leadership capacities.

Although independent of the Assembly, the Yale Medal Dinner is included as part of Assembly registration for all delegates and other official invitees. This dinner takes place on Thursday night in odd-numbered years, on Friday night in even-numbered years.

Also separate from the Assembly, but open to all, is the Alumni Village hospitality tent hosted by the AYA at the Yale Bowl on Saturday preceding the football game.

An AYA Delegate is an alumnus of Yale who is selected to represent a regional Yale club, Yale College class, or graduate or professional school alumni association constituency to the AYA Assembly. There are also At-Large Delegates to the Assembly who represent alumni organized outside those three constituencies. Constituencies have varying numbers of delegates as provided by the AYA Constitution. Delegates serve a three-year term that typically begins on July 1 and ends June 30 three years later.

Delegates come to New Haven in the fall to attend the Assembly, which is the annual gathering of alumni leaders in New Haven that generally occurs on the final home football game weekend in November. They are charged with bringing thoughts, concerns and questions they may have, as well as those of other alumni they may know, to the Assembly and raising those thoughts at the appropriate sessions. On the Thursday of Assembly weekend, delegates attend informational and educational sessions organized around a theme examining some aspect of Yale life. Friday is focused on leadership development, and generally features small group breakouts and hands-on sessions where other volunteers share their own experiences as Yale leaders. Saturday the AYA hosts a special tailgate event preceding the football game.

Delegates are expected to communicate back to other alumni what they have learned, both about the University in general and in terms of specific ideas and strategies that can help in their work with alumni groups. Shortly after the Assembly, an Executive Summary is provided by the AYA, along with some sample reports to assist the delegate in disseminating Assembly information.

At-Large Delegates are encouraged to submit their own report of the Assembly to the alumni groups with whom they work, and to AYA for inclusion on the AYA delegate reporting Web site. In the event that an At-Large Delegate cannot attend the Assembly for some reason, an alternate delegate can be appointed.

Alumni of Yale College and the graduate and professional schools are eligible.

Once an alumnus has served a full three-year term as a delegate of any type, he or she is not eligible to be appointed as a delegate until three more years have passed. If a delegate is filling out someone else's term or for some other reason has not served a full three-year term, he or she is eligible for re-nomination to a consecutive term.

While any alumnus or alumna who would like to share their perspective and skills with the Assembly is welcome to consider At-Large delegate service, we are particularly interested in alumni who are involved as volunteers with alumni groups organized around shared interests. At-Large Delegates are ideally alumni who offer additional views to the Assembly beyond the views of a "typical" class, club, or graduate and professional school alumni association delegate. As a representative alumni group, the Assembly is optimally a diverse group of individuals in terms of age, gender, race, occupation, and geographic location.

Delegates are responsible for getting themselves to New Haven and for the cost of their hotel accommodations. Meals are provided as part of the Assembly. There is no charge for attending the Assembly, though the AYA does ask for a voluntary contribution from those delegates who are able to assist in offsetting some of the costs of the Assembly. The AYA does have a small budget available to assist those for whom the expenses of attending the Assembly would be a barrier to their involvement. The policy allows delegates to submit receipts and we can cover 50% of travel and accommodation expenses, up to $300. Contributions and un-reimbursed travel expenses may qualify for a federal tax deduction.

Online Services

Info Accordions

Please visit yalealumni.yale.edu to change your password to the online alumni directory.

The Online Alumni Community is a set of services offered by the Association of Yale Alumni. The online community area includes discussion groups, an email forwarding service and an online alumni directory. The directory contains name, degree and contact information for all alumni of Yale College, the Graduate School and Yale’s professional schools.

All of the information and services in the Online Alumni Community are password-protected and available only to registered users. Each alumnus or alumna also has the option of suppressing any information that he or she does not wish to appear on the system. That is, users may turn off particular information fields in their listings to prevent them from being viewed by other users.

Simply log on to the Online Alumni Directory at www.aya.yale.edu and follow the link for “View or Update Your Online Directory Listing.”

Yes. Please email our office of Alumni Records at alumni.records@yale.edu with your name and Yale affiliation to request a change – and don’t forget to include the reason (spelling error, marriage, legal name change, or other reason). We will contact you to verify the request.

No problem. Simply complete the Registration process and proceed to the Online Alumni Directory. Follow the link labeled “View or Update Your Online Directory Listing” and follow the instructions for modifying your directory listing preferences. This page will allow you specify what items you would like to be displayed in the directory. The preferences are granular, so you can be as specific as you wish in deciding how much and what kind of information is viewable to other alumni.

The Online Alumni Directory is intended for use by alumni for the purposes of improving communications among alumni and between alumni and the University. As such, it is for official university use, alumni association use and individual alumni use for communication of a personal nature between members. Use of this directory for any other purpose (including, but not limited to, reproducing and storing in a retrieval system by any means, electronic or mechanical; creating mailing lists or otherwise using the addresses or other information contained in this directory for any commercial or political mailing) is a violation of copyright and prohibited.

There is no charge to alumni for use of the online community, including permanent email forwarding, access to the online alumni directory and access to message boards.

First, it is important to understand that only registered users will have access to the online directory, and the online community’s Terms of Service prohibit users from using the directory for unsolicited mass mailings. The most important privacy control, however, is in your hands -- you may adjust your individual record to suppress any contact information that you do not wish others to see or to use.

The AYA will continue to support its traditional email listservs. However, we hope the web-based message boards will provide and additional forum for alumni from all classes, schools, and clubs to exchange ideas and share their thoughts on a variety of subjects.

The Yale Alumni Association does not provide, nor is it allowed to provide due to data protection and privacy laws, contact information for any of our alumni to anyone, even other alumni, or to confirm whether a person attended Yale. Alumni Records is bound by the same rules and regulations as well, but they will forward inquiries to the individual(s) in question. You can contact them at 203.432.1100.

Yale College Reunions

Info Accordions

Those arriving by air or train should go directly to reunion headquarters to check in and get final weekend information. Those arriving by car are encouraged to park first: Pierson-Sage Garage if staying on campus or visiting for the day; hotel parking if staying at a hotel. Then take the Reunion Shuttle to headquarters.

Your ultimate destination when you arrive in New Haven will be your class reunion headquarters.  Please arrive at the gate serving as the college's main entrance.  This gate will be marked by a large reunion banner; other college gates are usually locked.  Main entrances are located as follows:

Branford: York St.
Davenport: York St.
Jonathan Edwards: High St.
Old Campus: College or High Sts.
Pierson: York St.
Silliman: College St.

If staying on campus or visiting for the day, AYA recommends parking in Yale's Pierson-Sage Garage and using the Reunion Shuttle to get around campus. Click here for directions to Pierson-Sage and a map of campus. Parking on the street is subject to meters, ticketing and towing; public lots and garages are usually not open 24 hours a day; and Yale lots have either limited or no access.  For those at hotels, you may park at the hotel (for a nominal fee), and use the Reunion Shuttle to get to events.
