Elaine Gustafson is an associate clinical professor at the Yale School of Nursing, where she serves as a periodic lecturer and yearly preceptor for students involved in a clinical experience conducted in Nicaragua. She previously worked as an associate professor at the school, directing its concentration in health care. Prior to this she served as a pediatric nurse practitioner at the Fair Haven Community Health Center and at the clinic based at the Fair Haven Middle School.
Gustafson recently completed two years as president of the Yale Club of the Suncoast — in Sarasota, Florida — the first woman ever to hold this position in the club’s 60+ year history. During her tenure she worked with the club’s board to strengthen its programs, to expand Yale Day of Service options, and to develop a highly regarded new website. Prior to becoming president she served many years on the club’s board as newsletter editor, program committee chair, Alumni Schools Committee interviewer, vice president and YAA Delegate
Gustafson divides her time between Sarasota, New Haven and Woodstock, Vermont. She continues to work as a volunteer with special-needs children at Easter Seals of Southwest Florida, where she also serves on the advisory board. She has also supported the Yale Alumni Service Corps during two volunteer-driven clinical programs, one in Nicaragua and the other at College Summit in West Virginia.
