Biography
Lexie Newman believes that a Yale education is an enormous privilege, and that alumni have a responsibility to enhance their communities through the benefits they received by attending Yale. This is why she has been devoted, for over a decade, to fostering the Yale community in her hometown of Chicago. Through her involvement in Yale Chicago, including serving as president from 2020 to 2022, she participated in every aspect of local alumni club leadership. From organizing events for young alumni, new Chicagoans and recent graduates to interviewing Yale applicants and organizing Yale Day of Service volunteer activities, she has always been motivated to foster relationships among Yale alumni in Chicago.
Newman seeks to cultivate Yale traditions and develop new initiatives that are unique to Yale’s culture. She is also proud of her role in identifying, encouraging and mentoring other volunteers in their club leadership. In addition, she has proudly served Yale in other capacities, such as co-chair of her class’s 10th reunion, Chicago Regional Director for the Yale Day of Service, ASC alumni interviewer, and alumni contributor to the Yale Daily News.
Professionally, Newman works full-time as an in-house counsel at the national accounting firm Grant Thornton LLP. She also plays violin and serves on the board of Lakeview Orchestra. Fun fact: Yale Law Professor Amy Chua wrote about Newman in her book Battle Hymn of the Tiger Mother.
