Biography
Miraj U. Desai, PhD is on the faculty of the Program for Recovery and Community Health of the Yale School of Medicine, Department of Psychiatry and a Fellow of Pierson College. Dr. Desai leads the Structural Health and Psychology Lab, which investigates the cultural, community, and social justice foundations of health and equity. His book, "Travel and Movement in Clinical Psychology: The World Outside the Clinic," explores the relations between mental health and structural oppression in particular. Dr. Desai has received numerous awards for his work, including from the American Psychological Association Minority Fellowship Program, who noted his, “outstanding scientific contributions and the application of this knowledge toward the improved mental and physical well-being of people of color.” He has served as an advisor to several prominent national organizations—including the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the American Hospital Association—and was just named a 40 Under 40 Leader in Health by the National Minority Quality Forum.
