Assembly & Convocation 2019 Schedule Highlights

Joshua Bekenstein ’80 is a current University Trustee. He is a co-chairman of Bain Capital and has many years of experience both as a senior executive of a large investment firm and as a director of companies in various business sectors.

Marc Brackett, PhD, is founding director of the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence and professor in the Child Study Center, Yale School of Medicine at Yale University.

Heidi Brooks is a Senior Lecturer in Organizational Behavior at Yale School of Management. She teaches and advises on the subject of everyday leadership, or the everyday micro-moments of impact that shape our lived experiences.

Lisa Brummel '81 is a co-owner of the Seattle Storm of the Women’s National Basketball Association. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sociology from Yale University in 1981 and joined Microsoft in 1989 after earning a master’s in business administration at UCLA.

Ingrid C. “Indy” Burke is the Carl W. Knobloch, Jr. Dean at the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies. She is a professor of ecosystem ecology whose work has focused on carbon and nitrogen cycling in semi-arid rangeland ecosystems. 

Teresa Chahine is the inaugural Sheila and Ron ’92 B.A. Marcelo Lecturer in Social Entrepreneurship at Yale School of Management.

Kerwin K. Charles is the Indra K. Nooyi Dean & Frederic D. Wolfe Professor of Economics, Policy, and Management at the Yale School of Management.

Weili Cheng ’77 is the executive director of the Yale Alumni Association. She oversees the alumni association’s groups, sets the direction and tone for the YAA’s office and operations, operates as the department’s emissary to the larger university, and serves as the organizational go-to for all things Yale alumni.

Marvin Chun, PhD is the Dean of Yale College, the Richard M. Colgate Professor of Psychology, and Professor of Neuroscience at Yale School of Medicine. 

Victoria M. Chun is the Thomas A. Beckett Director of Athletics at Yale University. A true trailblazer in collegiate sports, Chun is the first woman and first Asian American to serve in this role at Yale University.

Becca Constantine graduated from Yale School of Management in 2019. She served as a Nonprofit Board Fellow at New Haven Promise through SOM’s Nonprofit Board Fellows program and helped create spaces for community development and positive conversations around gender equity.

Lynn Cooley is the Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the C.N.H. Long Professor of Genetics, and Professor of Cell Biology and of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at Yale. 

Beverly Gage is professor of 20th-century American history and director of the Brady-Johnson Program in Grand Strategy. Her courses focus on American politics, statecraft, social movements, and government, broadly conceived.

Tamar Szabó Gendler is Yale’s inaugural Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences, the Vincent J. Scully Professor of Philosophy, and Professor of Psychology and Cognitive Science.

Virginia Gilder '79 is a co-owner of the Seattle Storm of the Women’s National Basketball Association. During her time at Yale University, she earned four varsity letters as a rower and was an All-Ivy Champion three times. 

Dean Burgwell “Burgie” Howard serves as the Dean of Student Engagement within Yale College and Associate Vice President of Student Life at the University.

Sharon M.K. Kugler is the University Chaplain at Yale. Her main focus is to further cultivate a chaplaincy for students, faculty and staff which defines itself by serving the needs of the richly diverse religious and spiritual traditions on campus allowing for deeper dialogue, increased accessibility, personal growth, creative educational opportunities, and pastoral leadership.  

Clare Leinweber is the Executive Director of Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale. As an experienced leader in innovation education, she has mentored and taught student innovators, founders, and joiners to develop strong ideas and solve real-world problems.

Lauren Noble is the founder and executive director of the William F. Buckley, Jr. Program at Yale, which she started as a senior in college. She will be joined by student leaders during the 2019 Assembly and Convocation. 

Peter Salovey '86 PhD is the twenty-third president of Yale University and the Chris Argyris Professor of Psychology.

Caroline Nobo Sarnoff is a Research Scholar in Law and Executive Director of the Justice Collaboratory at Yale Law School

Tom R. Tyler is the Macklin Fleming Professor of Law and Professor of Psychology at Yale Law School, as well as a Founding Director of The Justice Collaboratory.

Kathleen Elizabeth Walsh '77, 79 MPH is a current University Trustee. She is president and chief executive officer of Boston Medical Center (BMC), a private, not-for-profit academic medical center that disproportionately serves low-income patients.

Michael Warren '90 is a current University Trustee. He is the global managing director of Albright Stonebridge Group, a business strategy firm he co-founded in 2009, where he advises clients at the intersection of the public, private, and social sectors.
