Belonging at Yale: Supporting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion on Campus

What are the many dimensions of Belonging at Yale? How does one know if one actually belongs? What are the barriers to belonging? What are the important bridges already in place? These questions will guide our discussion and undoubtedly lead to more. This session will seek to deepen understandings of campus culture and ponder next frontiers with Belonging at Yale with speakers Burgwell J. Howard, associate vice president for student life and dean of student engagement, and Sharon M. K. Kugler, Yale University chaplain. This program is one of a number of breakouts offered in two time slots on Thursday afternoon.

Tsai CITY: Inspiring Yale Students to Innovate for Impact

Launched in 2017, the Tsai Center for Innovative Thinking at Yale is a resource for student founders, joiners, and explorers who are solving real-world problems through venture development, creative 5and technical projects, and innovative programming. Learn about Tsai CITY’s mission, the new building opening in 2020, and how alumni can contribute by inspiring and advising current students. This program is one of a number of breakouts offered in two time slots on Thursday afternoon.

5-Word Leadership Story

The Assembly and Convocation program will be challenging all speakers and participants to create a “5-word leadership story.” Based on Larry Smith’s “Six Word Memoir” project, your 5-word leadership story should encompass a concept or thought about yourself as a leader or some aspect of your leadership journey. As you prepare for your session at Assembly and Convocation, we encourage you to think about your 5-word leadership story and share it with your audience. Some examples:

  • Lead by example, show vulnerability.
  • Found success later in life.
  • Took risks, failed, tried again.
