      Add to Calendar 2024-05-04T09:30:00 2024-05-04T14:00:00 America/New_York Yale Day of Service: CO, Denver - Boys and Girls Club State Education Day Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver helps kids succeed in school, develop good character and citizenship, and live healthy lives at 25 neighborhood clubs through low or no-cost opportunities to participate in fun and educationally enriching activities after school, during the school day, and all summer long. This event will take place at the Owen location. Volunteers will help run State Education Day, where all 25 Clubs in Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver compete against one another for a handful of awards while completing fun activities designed to engage club members’ mastery of reading, geography, science, and math. Volunteers should arrive by 9:30am as the day begins at 10am and runs until 2pm. A light lunch will be provided to volunteers. Children aged 15 and up are welcome to volunteer alongside their parent or legal guardian. For more information on the activities, please contact Hasib Nasirullah YC ‘11.       Add to Calendar 2024-05-04T10:00:00 2024-05-04T13:00:00 America/New_York Yale Day of Service: CO, Boulder - Sombrero Marsh Environmental Educational Center Volunteers will do landscaping and weeding under the supervision of Thorne Nature Experience and City of Boulder Open Space staff members. Families of all ages are welcome. You will be asked to sign a waiver when you arrive as part of orientation. We will have tools and work gloves, but bring your favorite garden tool if you wish. Wear a hat and bring sunscreen and your water bottle. There is plenty of parking. If you wish to stay later and have a sack lunch, please bring that with you. Up to 20 people can participate in this opportunity. Please register as soon as convenient, as spots fill up quickly each year. FISH is a nonprofit organization that provides food, emergency financial assistance, and one-on-one mentoring support to Broomfield residents in need. In 2022, FISH provided more than 1.4 million pounds of food to 12,500+ unique people, 53% of whom were under the age of 18. After a brief orientation, our group of up to 10 Yale alumni volunteers will work in the cost-free, self-shop marketplace and warehouse sorting donations, stocking shelves, and repackaging bulk items. Please wear closed-toed shoes. Masks are optional. Volunteers will be asked to sign a waiver as part of orientation. Parking: FISH is located in the brick two-story building behind Wells Fargo. Club members will spend the morning and afternoon completing short activities for which they will earn tickets or points that will show completion of activities. These activities will all be run simultaneously such that Club members can choose which activities they would like to complete and the order in which they would like to complete them. There will be a lunch break built into the day, as well as an awards ceremony at the end of event.
