Yale Club of Austin and Yale Blue Green have teamed up for YDOS this year to serve our community through an environmental justice project.

We're excited to partner with Fruitful Commons and Onion Creek Park Neighborhood Alliance to help develop a regenerative greenspace and orchard in South Austin. Turning climate awareness into climate action, our project will serve the community still recovering from the historic flash floods of 2013 and 2015, which swept away hundreds of homes and claimed the lives of 5 residents. Our Yale volunteers will add momentum to this noble grassroots effort amplifying their mission to bring healing and new life to the area, and developing a greenspace oasis where future generations can gather, rest, and learn.

Alumni and their guests can sign up for any of the 4 activity zones. We have designed the day to be inclusive of Yalies' diverse skills and experiences, as well as their heat tolerance!
      1) Outdoor Interactive-Canvassing for signatures in support of the greenspace

      2) Outdoor Hands-Soil enrichment using compost, aka mushroom stomping

      3) Indoor Interactive-Researching and drafting grants for long-term support

      4) Indoor Hands-Reimagining an electrical box as a Little Free Library

Our Yale Day of Service will honor the legacy of our former president Ana Mejia Dietche (YC '84), a devoted Austinite who championed arts, education, and collective care. Whether you're into canvassing, composting, research, or crafting there's a place for you.

We encourage Yalies to invite friends and family, the more the merrier in the spirit of community. Please dress according to your role (indoor/outdoor) and wear good walking shoes for the outdoor roles. Refreshments will be provided, but reusable water bottles are encouraged.

Please RSVP and sign up for your volunteer roles using this survey. https://forms.gle/pgWB6D4ePYD3st5y9
