‘Shining Light on Truth: Yale, New Haven and Slavery’ Talk and Tour with the Yale Club of New Haven
Since 2020, the Yale and Slavery Research Project has been exploring and documenting Yale's complex past that includes direct and indirect ties to slavery. https://yaleandslavery.yale.edu/
Join Yale Club of New Haven alumni and friends for an exclusive free introductory talk and tour of the new exhibit "Shining Light on Truth: New Haven, Yale and Slavery" at the New Haven Museum, on view now through summer 2024.
Start with a special Introductory talk and overview in the Museum Ballroom presented by Michael Morand of the Beinecke Library and NH Musem staff. Learn about the HBCU that didn't start in New Haven in 1831, and early Yale buildings built with the labor or wealth from enslaved people. Discuss how Yale is reckoning with its racial past and the University's forward-looking commitments and actions.
Then View the Special Exhibit Galleries with historical details, documents, and photographs of 300+ year history of slavery, abolition, and African American achievement at Yale and in New Haven.
