      Add to Calendar 2025-05-10T09:00:00 2025-05-10T13:00:00 America/New_York Yale Day of Service: OH, Cleveland - "Sound the Alarm" with Cleveland Fire and Cleveland Red Cross We will work in teams of 3-4 to install smoke detectors in a neighborhood that Cleveland Fire has identified as having many homes in need of new, operable smoke detectors to save lives. Some on the teams will install the detectors while others record the number of smoke detectors installed and educate residents on fire safety. Please arrive on time to be included on a team and get instructions from Fire personnel, as well as some refreshments before the event starts. Youth ages 16-17 are welcome to participate, with adult supervision by a parent or guardian, but will need to register separately, be present for the 9 a.m. training with other volunteers, and submit parental consent to volunteer plus acknowledgement and agreement to Red Cross policies. Yale Cleveland has partnered with Cleveland Fire and the Cleveland Red Cross on this project for the last three years. It truly saves lives. This will be a great chance to give back to our community and reconnect with Yalies living in Memphis.  We're excited to be volunteering at Empower Memphis Career & College Prep as they get ready to welcome students into their building this fall. We'll be helping out with painting, gardening work, and furniture assembly.

      Come anytime from 9-2pm, on-site parking is available, and plan to wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting paint or dirt on.
