This webinar focuses on the importance of women's suffrage, particularly in this critical election, as we celebrate the centennial of the 19th amendment. Martha S. Jones, professor of History at the Johns Hopkins University and Society of Black Alumni Presidential Professor, will join us in a fireside chat with Reva Seigel '86 JD, the Nicholas deB. Katzenbach Professor of Law at the Yale Law School. These two leading scholars will share salient wisdom on the history of the 19th amendment and the implications of this history as we understand today’s debates regarding the meaning of the constitution.
Professor Jones, in her most recent book, "Vanguard: How Black Women Broke Barriers, Won the Vote, and Insisted on Equality for All," provides new insights on the struggle to win the 19th amendment. Professor Siegel will illuminate the meaning of the 19th amendment in today’s debate regarding the interpretation of our constitution.
Dr. Akosua Barthwell Evans '90 JD and Dr. Susan Pepin '87 will provide remarks and will moderate.
