Join us for a pilot virtual book club conducted between Yale Alumni Service Corps (YASC) and Amandla Development with Grade 9 learners. The purpose of the pilot is to establish a structure for future book clubs (to include Grade 7 and Grade 4) using a model that incorporates lessons learned from the YASC Amandla June/July 2021 project.

Amandla Development is a South African nonprofit, founded by Yale alumnus Scott Clarke 02, based in Philippi, a “township” in Cape Town. Almost 50% of Philippi’s youth drop out of school. However, education in a township is also about safety, nutrition, healthcare, community support, and access to and availability of resources. Such a layered, complex problem demands a layered, complex response. This is where Amandla comes in, and is the focus of the work they do.

Please note that registration is now closed. If you would like to learn more, please contact Yale Alumni Service Corps

The Yale Club of Hartford is pleased to announce its award sponsorship of the CT Invention Convention 2022 Virtual Finals. We invite members of the Yale community to serve as judges for this year's virtual competition as part of Yale Day of Service 2022. Because the judging takes place virtually, Yalies from all over the globe are welcome to participate.

Registration to serve as a judge is now open and closes on March 17. Judging takes place between March 25 - April 12, 2022. The judging itself takes between 2-3 hours over a period of two and a half weeks. Each submission should take about 10 minutes. We hope you will consider judging a minimum of 10 inventions.

Note: when registering on the Invention Convention website, write Yale University in the employer field to identify yourself as part of the Yale Day of Service. Then send an email to Katherine McCormack (below) letting her know you registered to be a judge.

February 26 is National Letter to an Elder Day, a holiday celebrated by sending an elder a handwritten letter of love.

National Letter to an Elder Day was started by Jacob Cramer BF' 22, founder of Love for Our Elders, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting loneliness with love among senior communities.

This day comes once a year to honor the art of letter-writing as a way to send love, one letter at a time!

If you can't make the February 26 deadline, please consider filling one of the many letter requests from Love for Our Elders an elder during the Yale Day of Service season.
