Yale in Hollywood Fest is back for a second year, accepting submissions now through October 15.

Yale in Hollywood Fest is a global virtual film festival that will be held December 2 to December 4, featuring a three-day lineup of feature and short films. Films will be judged by an esteemed alumnae jury of actress Sara Gilbert, producer Chris Lee, last year’s festival winner Delilah Napier, and Yale in Hollywood Fest alum and current student filmmaker Kristina Yang.

For films to qualify for submission, they must include at least one Yale student, alum, or current staff in the starring, producing, writing, or directing chair.

“As a filmmaker who started making films and going to film festivals since 1992, when I was a Yale student, I have realized that getting films shown at film festivals has always been challenging for every filmmaker,” said festival director Quentin Lee, one of the event’s co-founders. “We started Yale in Hollywood Fest as a platform to showcase feature and short films made with a significant Yalie participation and cinematically uplift the Yale spirit.”

The decision was made for the festival to be virtual again this year to make it accessible to the worldwide Yale community, providing a larger platform to surface great and important stories.

“One of my most rewarding revelations since entering the film industry and witnessing films being made was realizing that there is something for everyone,” said Melissa Johnson, the festival’s features programmer. “If there is a story within you waiting to be told, there is an audience ready to hear it. Dedicated to the diversity and inclusion of Yalie filmmakers, we at Yale in Hollywood Fest are here to help get those stories told.”

In addition to the roles held by Lee and Johnson, alumna Hannah Ruth Earl will serve as the programmer for short films. Alumnus Kevin Winston is the founder and head of Yale in Hollywood, a volunteer-run shared interest group based in Los Angeles that connects Yale students and alumni to the entertainment industry.

All events associated with Yale in Hollywood Fest, including screenings and live streams, will be available directly from Yale in Hollywood Fest’s official website.

Submissions are now open on Filmfreeway.com. To submit today or for more information, please visit yihfest.com.
