Class of 1959 60th Reunion - Program Highlights - 1959

May 23 - 26, 2019

Yale Class of 1959 - Pre-Register Now!

Timothy Dwight CollegeDear Classmates,

May 23-26, 2019 are the dates of our Yale Class of 1959 60th Reunion. Mark your calendars now and plan to attend 59’s 60th!  **Please note that the date for our reunion given in the October 2018 Yale Alumni Magazine Alumni Notes, was incorrect; ours is May 23-26**.

Randy Ney and Charlie Nolan, your reunion co-chairs along with their wives Lea Ney and Eleanor Nolan, have begun to organize and brainstorm. We have discussed a reunion budget with Class Secretary Joe Staley and Class Treasurer Ben Gertz. We have met with our representatives from the Yale Alumni Association about possible event venues and food selections (Yale’s food service has come a long way in these 60 years). Several classmates have already submitted interesting ideas for activities and symposiums. The ’59 Whiffs are warming up. Planning, in other words, is well under way.

As reunion devotees know, Yale reunions have three components. First is a reintroduction to Yale today in half-day sessions on Friday and Saturday designed for all reunion classes. Unfailingly interesting, these are our opportunities to hear from Yale faculty, students and campus leaders. Second, we will continue the traditions of our own unique class gatherings on Friday and Saturday. Who can forget the concert given exclusively to us by the School of Music in tribute to Steve Adams’ transformative gift, or the discussion led by Bob Semple featuring Win Lord’s mentor Henry Kissinger, both at our 50th in 2009. It won’t be easy to top those experiences, but we’re going to try our best, with your help.

Third, of course, is the un-programmed discovery and rediscovery, among classmates, spouses, widows, and companions, of old recollections and new ideas, of shared and unshared interests and experiences – at meals, between panel discussions, and just plain hanging out.

In the early spring, we’ll send a specific schedule and ask about your attendance plans. Meanwhile, please pre-register. Actual registration, with costs and full reunion schedules, will come from Yale in March. Our reunion headquarters will be Timothy Dwight College.

Don’t forget to submit your recollections of our undergraduate days to classmate Don Watson, via his email address. Don is compiling and editing our essays into a reunion booklet entitled, “The Way We Were Yale ’59.”  He has received over 70 submissions so far, but is looking for many more before his deadline of December 1, 2018.

Hotel accommodations in New Haven are scarce on reunion weekends. By now, you should have received a mailing from AYA indicating that blocks of rooms at several New Haven hotels were to open for reunion reservations at noon on November 1st. If you were not able to obtain a hotel room, remember that there will be plenty of housing options, including campus housing available in the spring. For more information on reunion hotels, please click on the "Reunion Hotels" link at left.

So, gents, mark the dates, May 23-26, 2019 on your calendars and protect them. Click the "Pre-Register Now" link to let us know that you are interested in coming. Contact roommates and friends – and don’t forget about widows of deceased classmates – and insist that they join us. Check our class notes in the Yale Alumni Magazine, our newly revamped class website (, and the reunion website for updates. You will hear more from us.

See you next May at '59’s 60th!
