      In NE Ohio, one in seven people is food insecure, meaning they may not know where their next meal will come from. The Greater Cleveland Food Bank seeks to bridge the meal gap, connecting individuals with the nutritious meals they need to succeed.
      Volunteer tasks may include:
      -Sorting and repackaging incoming food and non-food donations
      -Backpacks for Kids Kits assembly
      -Packing Senior Boxes (Commodity Supplemental Food Program Box)
      -Relabeling and correcting labels on products to enable distribution

      Add to Calendar 2024-05-04T09:30:00 2024-05-04T14:00:00 America/New_York Yale Day of Service: CO, Denver - Boys and Girls Club State Education Day Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver helps kids succeed in school, develop good character and citizenship, and live healthy lives at 25 neighborhood clubs through low or no-cost opportunities to participate in fun and educationally enriching activities after school, during the school day, and all summer long. This event will take place at the Owen location. Volunteers will help run State Education Day, where all 25 Clubs in Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Denver compete against one another for a handful of awards while completing fun activities designed to engage club members’ mastery of reading, geography, science, and math. Volunteers should arrive by 9:30am as the day begins at 10am and runs until 2pm. A light lunch will be provided to volunteers. Families of all ages are welcome. You will be asked to sign a waiver when you arrive as part of orientation. We will have tools and work gloves, but bring your favorite garden tool if you wish. Wear a hat and bring sunscreen and your water bottle. There is plenty of parking. If you wish to stay later and have a sack lunch, please bring that with you.       Project Lemonade supports local foster youth with year-round shopping for free clothes and accessories, with internships, networking, grants, and scholarships.

      Yale volunteers will:

      1.  Prior to May 4, collect needed items for the store. Host a donation drive or purchase needed items via this wishlist.  You can do this even if you can’t attend the event May 4!

      2. On May 4th, we will bring our collected donations to the store, assist youth who come to shop, and complete needed inventory work at the store. 

      This is an indoor location in the Lloyd Center Mall and appropriate for families with children 8 and up. 

      Attendance will be capped at 15 people.

      FREE PARKING: Project Lemonade is located in the Lloyd Center Mall, 2nd Floor next to Visionworks. The closest parking is in the garage next to Barnes and Noble. Drive to Row 2DD and enter the adjacent mall door.

      Add to Calendar 2024-05-05T00:00:00 2024-05-05T00:00:00 America/New_York Yale Day of Service: CA, Tiburon - Outdoor workday at historic Immigration Station in Angel Island State Park For the tenth time, Yale alumni will be helping clean up the grounds of the immigration station on Angel Island. After a one-mile hike (including about 100 stairsteps), volunteers will perform weeding and cleaning onsite. The location is the grounds of the historic station where about one million immigrants were processed between 1910 and 1940. After a lunch break, Grant Din '79, former staff at the Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation, will lead a tour of the former barracks, mess hall, and hospital including new exhibits in the latter two spaces. Bring a lunch and water; tools will be provided (if you have favorite gloves, tools, etc. feel free to bring them). We plan to take the 7:30 a.m. staff ferry and work from about 8:30 to 12 noon and tour around 1-3. Return ferries leave around 5. Affordable ($5) parking is down the street next to the CVS - put in 1599 Tiburon Blvd., Tiburon into your GPS. Breakfast and lunches you can take to the island are available from 7 a.m. on at Cafe Acri next to the ferry dock, but allow enough time to order and get your food. For over forty years, Cross Roads has been meeting the immediate needs of its residents and providing them with the tools and guidance to successfully return to permanent housing. Our group of Yale volunteers will plan the evening meal, prepare it together in the shelter's kitchen and serve dinner to the residents. In past years, musically inclined volunteers have provided entertainment during dinner. This marks our 14th year of volunteering at Cross Roads. If you're not able to join us on this date, we will be returning throughout the year and welcome your participation at another time.
