      Dear Yale FGLI Students and Young Alumni,

      While we are trying to cope with this unexpected crisis affecting all of us, we pull together as members of the Yale family. 1stGenYale, an alumni-led support group for Yalies, who share being first-gen and/or low-income, is hosting our first webinar focused on helping you with your future plans. Your summer jobs, internships, and full-time work now might be up in the air and we want to help you through it. All Yale students and alumni are welcome to participate.

      Partnering with Office of Career Strategy, we are hosting our own 1stGenYalie Derek Webster '99, Associate Director for the arts in the Yale Office of Career Strategy, who will share his thoughts on how to navigate these uncertain times. Please join us!

      Derek's Bio:
      1stGen at Yale, Derek graduated as a film studies major, before spending a decade in Los Angeles as a literary manager and script consultant. He now organizes and expands the university’s arts career resources as part of the Common Good & Creative Careers initiative at Yale OCS.

      As the associate director for the arts, Derek works with students and alumni to explore creative careers, which can include pursuing recruited or external job searches; reviewing submission and pitch materials; improving networking approaches; and helping Yalies to navigate the arts, entertainment or communications related industries. Currently enrolled in the Fairfield Creative Writing MFA program, when not adventuring with his wife and precious/precocious children, Derek is prone to the occasional burst of fiction, both literary and genre: ivanhope.com.
