*Please note this site has reached maximum volunteer capacity. Please consider registering for another project in Connecticut.* This is a rescheduled event from May 7.

Join the Yale Peabody Museum on Horse Island as we maintain the property, collect trash, and improve the trail system. Horse Island, owned by the Peabody Museum, is one of the Thimble Islands in the Long Island Sound near the village of Stony Creek in Branford, CT. Participants will get a sneak peek of the new sustainably designed research station, which will be used by Yale students and faculty across disciplines.

Because current University policy concerning COVID-19 safety dictates that minors are not allowed on campus for university activities until May 29, 2022, this Day of Service project is limited to individuals 18 years or older.

Parking is limited at the Stony Creek Dock area, so arrive early enough to find parking. Participants should prepare to encounter uneven terrain and poison ivy as well as ticks and mosquitoes; a hat and sunscreen are recommended to combat sun exposure, and volunteers should wear supportive footwear and comfortable outdoor work clothes that can get dirty.

Participants will catch the ferry from the Stony Creek Dock at 12:00 p.m. and receive an orientation on Horse Island at 12:30 p.m. You will be able to choose the projects(s) you'd like to work on for the afternoon. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds. You'll return to the Stony Creek Dock between 4:00 and 4:30 pm.
