As we have several times this last year, we are partnering with The Mission Continues to serve our community. This beach clean-up is a great way to help the environment, develop our community, and breathe pride into where we live.

We will meet up at the dirt parking lot before you cross the bridge onto the island, on the north side of the road. There will be a number of groups participating. Wear Yale gear if you have it so that we can easily identify you!

All volunteers are expected to adhere to local and federal COVID safety precautions, including social distancing and wearing a face mask.

This project will be honoring the life and legacy of PFC Rey David Cuervo, US Army.

Note: The time of the event is 9 am - 12 pm Central Time.

In 1988, neighbors joined together to save a large parcel of land from development on the north and east sides of Cedar Lake in Minneapolis. Seeking out and inviting all interested parties to participate, the group focused on a vision-to establish a nature park in the heart of the city-and adopted a set of organizational principles for Cedar Lake Park. The Park is open for all to enjoy and makes it possible to commune with nature in the city.

Volunteers will work outdoors on clearing and lining trails, removing buck-thorn and other invasive plant species, general planting, etc. Dress for the weather and if possible, bring work gloves.

All ages welcome but adults supervise younger children.  In terms of weather will work in a light drizzle but not if raining hard or storming.

YAANW recognizes the YAA guidelines for in person events. YAANW will insist on local health rules being enforced and does not assume responsibility for individuals' health with regard to these activities. We will be requesting masks be worn and social distancing practiced.

Since 2015 Northwest United Methodist Church has partnered with Daniel Wright Elementary School in a "Brown Bag Lunches" program (1/2 students receive free/reduced school meals).  The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated food insecurity.   On 5/22/2021 USDA will deliver 1300 food boxes (30 lbs each).

Volunteers will help to unload the boxes off delivery trucks and load onto recipients' cars.  We will also need drivers to deliver the food boxes to others' homes. We recommend volunteers wear sturdy shoes and clothing you can move in easily. Food boxes are about 30 lbs each.
