Join the Yale Club of Michigan for an exciting service opportunity, and appreciate Detroit's remarkable history at the same time. We will be visiting Historic Fort Wayne for the Yale Day of Service on May 13, and they have asked us to help clean some of their unique collections.

According to the Detroit Historical Society's Automotive and Industrial Curator, Dave Marchioni, "we have several wagons/carriages/cannons (see pictures) that are due to be photographed in the near future.

People with allergies are advised to mask up (masks will be provided). This will be dusty work, so wear appropriate clothing that you don't mind getting dusty. It would also be advisable to wear closed toed shoes, no sandals, etc.

      Directions (given ongoing bridge construction):
The most direct route to Historic Fort Wayne currently is down Clark St to Jefferson Ave, and our entrance is off Jefferson. Once you are in the grounds of the fort, go straight from the guard shack to the third street (Gibbs). Make a right turn and follow it past the large berm. Once you pass the berm, the building is on the left, and parking is all along the front of the building.

We will be providing a pizza lunch and refreshments that day, and all work materials.

Note: this program has reached its maximum volunteer capacity. Please consider volunteering for another service program neaby.

Join the Yale Peabody Museum on Horse Island as we maintain the property, collect trash, and improve the trail system. Horse Island, owned by the Peabody Museum, is one of the Thimble Islands in the Long Island Sound near the village of Stony Creek in Branford, CT. We'll base our operations out of the new sustainably designed research station, which is already being used by Yale students and faculty across the disciplines.

This Day of Service project is designed for adults, but family members 14 years or older who are prepared to participate are welcome to register along with their parents/guardians.

Parking is limited at the Stony Creek dock area; plan to arrive 15-20 minutes early to find parking. Participants should prepare to encounter uneven terrain and poison ivy as well as ticks. A hat and sunscreen are recommended, and volunteers should wear supportive, closed-toe footwear and comfortable outdoor work clothes that can get dirty.

Participants will catch the ferry from the Stony Creek Dock at 12:30 pm and receive an orientation on Horse Island at 1:00 pm. You will be able to choose the projects(s) you'd like to work on for the morning. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds. You'll return to the Stony Creek Dock between 4:30 and 5:00 pm.

The program will run in light rain, but in the event of significant inclement weather we will move to our rain dates of Sunday, May 21, and Saturday, June 10, please hold those on your calendar if possible!

*This event site is closed to further registrants. Please consider participating in a different Service Project

Alemany Farm, a 3.5 acre organic farm ecosystem, is in southeast San Francisco. The farm sits on the unceded ancestral homeland of the Ramaytush Ohlone peoples who are the original inhabitants of the San Francisco Peninsula, and the original stewards of this land.

The largest agricultural site in San Francisco, Alemany Farm offers everyone the chance to learn where their food comes from, pitch in to help, and take home fresh produce for free. Learn more below and come get your hands dirty with us!

Alemany Farm grows food security and educates local residents about how they can become their own food producers. They strive to increase ecological knowledge and habitat value, and to sow the seeds for economic and environmental justice. All of the food they grow is given away for free to neighbors, volunteers, The Free Farm Stand, and other groups.

      WHAT TO EXPECT:
They ask that volunteers come on-time, at the start of the shift.

After an orientation, we will work on various projects and will end the day with a vegetable harvest for volunteers to take home. Farm projects may include weeding, planting, bed preparation, fruit tree work, compost making, mulching, pathway maintenance, greenhouse work, and more.

      WHAT TO BRING:

      -Face mask
      -Water Bottle
      -Hat
      -Sturdy Shoes
      -Jacket with layered clothing underneath
      -Sunscreen
      -Snacks
-A bag (to bring home some produce)
**Travel light! The farm is an open public space and we have no secure storage for bags. Leave valuables at home and be mindful of your personal belongings, as you would in any park setting.

      DIRECTIONS:
By BART: Glen Park is the closest BART station. It is a 15 minute walk or 5 minute bike to the farm. When exiting the station, cross Bosworth St, then turn right on Bosworth and follow it under the overpass. Bear left and follow Bosworth several blocks to Mission St. Cross Mission and head east on Murray St for 3 blocks until it ends at the entrance to Saint Mary's Rec Center. Just inside the park entrance gate take an immediate right and follow the paved drive down the hill past the playground and the dog run, then bear left and down the walkway ramp to Alemany Blvd. The pedestrian gate to Alemany Farm is a few feet to the left.

Via bus from the Mission/Downtown SF: Take a 14 or 49 bus southbound on Mission Street to Bosworth Street (several blocks past 30th St). Cross Mission to Murray Street, then proceed along Murray and continue to the farm as described above.

You may search Google Maps for Alemany Farm to make your own route by bike, bus, or car.

All ages welcome: Everyone, young or old, experienced or still learning, is welcome to join.
