The Online Alumni Community is a set of services offered by the alumni association, including the online alumni directory. The directory contains name, degree and contact information for all alumni of Yale College, the Graduate School and Yale’s professional schools, as well as post-doctoral fellows and international affiliates.

Membership in the Yale Alumni Association provides certain benefits and is automatic for relevant constituent groups. These groups include:

  • Alumni who completed at least a semester in any degree granting program
  • Postdoctoral associates and fellows
  • International affiliates, as defined by Yale’s Office of International Affairs, such as World Fellows, Fox Fellows, visiting international students, graduates of Yale-NUS College, and others

Please note that the majority of YAA programs are open to all, regardless of membership status. For example, consult the Events Calendar on this site for current programmatic opportunities.

For more information on alumni community online benefits specifically, please see the online community help section Help Center page.

Note: if membership were ever expanded to additional categories in the future, we would reach out to relevant constituents with that update. We recommend that individuals keep their contact information up to date by contacting Alumni Records.

All of the information and services in the Online Alumni Community are password protected and available only to registered users. Each user also has the option of suppressing any information that you do not wish to appear on the system. That is, users may hide particular information fields in their listings to prevent them from being viewed by other users.

Simply log into your profile in the Online Alumni Directory. Information in your profile is organized under various tabs. Any changes will be updated in the university's central alumni database within 2 business days.

To change your name as it appears in the alumni directory, email Alumni Records with your name and Yale affiliation, requesting a change and providing the reason (spelling error, marriage, legal name change, or other reason). Alumni Records will contact you to verify the request.

Login to your directory profile. Click "edit" for any section and toggle the "Show/Hide" buttons on the right hand side of your screen for information you would prefer to hide from other directory users. The preferences are granular, so you can be as specific as you wish in deciding how much and what kind of information is viewable to other alumni.

The Online Alumni Directory is intended for use by alumni for the purposes of improving communications among alumni and between alumni and the university. Use of this directory for any other purpose - including but not limited to reproducing and storing in a retrieval system by any means, electronic or mechanical; creating mailing lists or otherwise using the addresses or other information contained in this directory for any commercial or political purpose - is a violation and prohibited. Please refer to our Terms of Use for a complete explanation.

There is no charge to alumni for use of the online community, including YaleMail alumni email accounts.

While only registered users will have access to the online directory, terms of use prohibit users from using information for unsolicited, commercial or political purposes, it is impossible for the university to completely prevent misuse. In addition, email spam is unfortunately ubiquitous, and it is possible for others to obtain your information through public sources. Please contact us with any concerns.

Note: YaleMail replaced the former forwarding service, known as Virtual Yale Station, in February 2016. All active VYS accounts were transferred to YaleMail at that time. Alumni who have not yet activated their YaleMail accounts should contact us for assistance.
