How does one go from being an anthropology major at Yale to being at the fore of the craft beer movement to head brewer at a Danish microbrewery? And how does a woman wend her way in management positions in a male-dominated business?

Recently hitting the 20-year mark in the craft beer industry, Tamar Banner 99 has brought her expertise gained from her years at Harpoon, New Belgium, and Brew Dog breweries to To Øl. She is a certified cicerone, the beer equivalent of a sommelier, and an active member of Master Brewers Association of the Americas and the Pink Boots Society, an organization for women in the beer industry. Tamar regularly speaks at beer dinners and festivals, especially about beer and food pairing. She makes her own cheese at home and loves to experiment with all things fermented!

Come join the conversation and learn about the art and science of fermentation and the craft beer culture. Are women having any impact, as their numbers increase in the industry? Just in time for Feb Club, Tamar brings insight on a whole other level about this ancient beverage and its 21st century trends. If you don’t know an IPA from a hefeweizen, this might demystify those taproom chalkboards. If you a serious beer drinker, gather with others who share your enthusiasm for zymurgy.

The coronavirus pandemic represents a severe global crisis, affecting physical and psychological health. Regulations imposed to counteract the rapid growth of COVID-19, mainly social restrictions, have represented a risk factor for developing depressive, anxious symptoms and other psychological ailments such as stress and fear. Those who treat individuals with symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress strongly advocate that a healthy social and physical environment is critical for maintenance of balanced mental health. This interactive discussion will include small breakout sessions that will review coping strategies for alleviation of emotional stress brought on by the multiple complexities of the COVID-19 pandemic. A review of resiliency techniques on how to cope with and adjust to the pandemic will be discussed. Recommendations such as increasing social interaction and support when safe, engaging in a wider variety of activities that foster a sense of mastery, including work will be highlighted. Key terms for thought: COVID-19, coping strategies, psychological well-being, resiliency, adverse factors, and connections.

Caroline Ainsworth Hughes So often our churches segment children’s ministry and youth ministry as if they were unrelated efforts. This presentation aims to equip lay and clergy leaders to take a wholistic view and approach to ministry with young people. We will discuss ways to join the programming we do with children to those programs offered to older youth, locate ways to integrate both into the life of the church, and discern where God is moving our ministries as we continue to emerge from the pandemic. false
