Volunteers are invited to participate one of two ways:

      1. Assist families in the store, check shoppers in and out, organize, and sort donations--whatever needs to be done. If you'd like to be trained to work with shoppers or at checkout, please arrive at 11:30am for training. 16 VOLUNTEERS MAXIMUM.

      2. Organize your own clothing drive, or raise funds to sponsor a WISH. Bring your donations to the store on Sunday, May 15 before 2pm.

This is an indoor location in the Lloyd Center Mall and appropriate for families with children 8 and up. Public health guidance must be followed.

FREE PARKING: Project Lemonade is located in the Lloyd Center Mall, 2nd Floor next to Visionworks. The closest parking is the parking garage next to Barnes and Noble. Drive to Row 2DD and enter the adjacent mall door.

After the event, we’ll gather for happy hour at a nearby restaurant.

Gardens For Everyone (GFE) helps people grow their own veggies at home by building backyard, raised-bed garden boxes and supporting box recipients as they begin growing food. Priority is given to low to moderate income households, as well as organizations that want to grow food for their community.

      What We Do
Volunteers should be comfortable using the tools and lumber needed to make a raised garden bed. Volunteers with this program must also be willing to meet staff at a recipient’s home. We can really use your help! If you are willing to work hard and get a little dirty along the way do not worry about being an expert in building. You learn most everything you need to know by working with staff and experienced volunteers. Bring your own gloves if you have them!

*Please note this site has reached maximum volunteer capacity. Please consider registering for another project in Connecticut.*
NEW DATE IS MAY 21 - Rescheduled from May 7.

Join the Yale Peabody Museum on Horse Island as we maintain the property, collect trash, and improve the trail system. Horse Island, owned by the Peabody Museum, is one of the Thimble Islands in the Long Island Sound near the village of Stony Creek in Branford, CT. Participants will get a sneak peek of the new sustainably designed research station, which will be used by Yale students and faculty across disciplines.

Because current University policy concerning COVID-19 safety dictates that minors are not allowed on campus for university activities until May 29, 2022, this Day of Service project is limited to individuals 18 years or older.

Parking is limited at the Stony Creek Dock area, so arrive early enough to find parking. Participants should prepare to encounter uneven terrain and poison ivy as well as ticks and mosquitoes; a hat and sunscreen are recommended to combat sun exposure, and volunteers should wear supportive footwear and comfortable outdoor work clothes that can get dirty.

Participants will catch the ferry from the Stony Creek Dock at 8:30 am and receive an orientation on Horse Island at 9:00 am. You will be able to choose the projects(s) you'd like to work on for the morning. Please feel free to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy on the grounds. You'll return to the Stony Creek Dock between 12:30 and 1:00 pm.

Volunteers will work on clearing and lining trails, removing buck-thorn and other invasive plant species, general planting etc.

      * All ages are welcome for this project, but it is requested that adults supervise younger children.
      * In terms of weather, we will work in a light drizzle but not if raining hard or storming.

In 1988, neighbors joined together to save a large parcel of land from development on the north and east sides of Cedar Lake in Minneapolis. Seeking out and inviting all interested parties to participate, the group focused on a vision-to establish a nature park in the heart of the city-and adopted a set of organizational principles for Cedar Lake Park. The Park is open for all to enjoy and makes it possible to commune with nature in the City.
