      The American River Parkway is 4,800 acres of public land along 23 miles of river! With over 40 species of fish, hundreds of plant species, and 220 species of mammals, the American River Parkway is an important natural oasis in our growing metropolitan area. We will be doing a river cleanup and removing litter and debris at a site on the parkway.

      Event Details: 

      • Clothing: Volunteers should wear long sleeves, jeans, close toed sturdy shoes, sunscreen, and sunhats.
      • Food: Volunteers should bring water. The ARPF will provide some water and a light snack.
      • Supplies: Optional - Volunteers can bring gardening/work gloves and a trash grabber. The ARPF will provide nitrile gloves and trash bags but not trash grabbers.
      • Rainy day plans: We will cancel the event with 24 hour notice if there is a high probability of rain.
      • This is a family-friendly project, so youth are welcome.

      Urban Resources Initiative (URI) is a Yale University partnership that fosters community-based land stewardship and promotes environmental education in New Haven. Come join us to plant trees to honor long-term Yale employees who have chosen a tree donation in lieu of a gift.

      Join Yale Chicago For a Reuse & Recycle Pop-Up, in partnership with Alderman Daniel La Spata (1st Ward).

      Volunteers will help residents who drop off materials that are not accepted by the city’s Blue Cart program. Reduce Waste Chicago will distribute items to other organizations, local nonprofits, artists groups and recycling companies – all of which improves landfill diversion.

      It is also possible that a surprise Yale Alumni Celebrity Guest will join Yale Chicago at this event! Stay tuned for more information!

      REGISTRATION:
      Attendees must register using the Registration button on the Yale Chicago website AND Registration is also required on the Reduce Waste Chicago website.

      LexFarm is a non-profit working farm dedicated to sustainable agriculture, farming education, and food access. Activities may include seeding, transplanting, weeding, small construction projects, installing signage, general farm cleanup and interior/exterior painting. Farm needs depend on growing conditions and weather, so we'll know more about the specific activities closer to the event date. Wear work clothes and boots, and bring work gloves (optional), a hat, sunscreen, and a water bottle. Plan on getting dirty!

      • Parking: please park on side streets or at the Arlington reservoir, which abuts the LexFarm property. The farm is near the Minuteman bike path at the Arlington-Lexington border. Let Jackie know if you’re seeking a carpool or info about public transportation.
      • Water: Bring a water bottle.
      • Ages: We welcome volunteers of all ages. Kids younger than 15 require adult supervision. Volunteers age 15-17 will need to print a waiver and bring it along.

      The Saturday Lunch Program at the Manhattan Church of Christ provides hot meals to the homeless with dignity and compassion.  

      All shifts are family-friendly. Volunteers help prepare meals, place meals in to go containers, place to go containers in bags, and distribute meals to guests, as well as distribute coffee, tea & bottled water, while observing safety protocols. 

      Volunteers may also come early to help cook the food that will be distributed. Interested parties should reach out to Rev. Carl Garrison for more information.

      Volunteers must wear masks and gloves, and adhere to social distancing and wipe down policies. 

      There are only 12 spots for volunteers. We expect that there will be a waiting list, so please notify us by phone or email as early as possible if (after registration) you are unable to attend.

      West Side Campaign Against Hunger

      West Side Campaign Against Hunger alleviates hunger by ensuring that all New Yorkers have access with dignity to a choice of healthy food and supportive services.  

      Volunteers are needed for the following jobs: 

      Two Shifts: 9:00-11:00 am & 11:00 am-1:00 pm (All activities are family-friendly)

      • Packing food for distribution Max 6 on each shift
        • Capacity: 6 volunteers maximum per shift
        • Description: Assemble individual household bags of shelf-stable food products. Volunteers should feel comfortable performing the same task repeatedly, using hand/finger dexterity, lifting around 10 pounds and working on their feet for the entire shift. 
      • Sorting donations 
        • Capacity: 2 volunteers maximum per shift
        • Description: Check expiration dates of shelf-stable food(s) and categorize donations by food type. 
      • Writing cards to customers to be placed into food bags or boxes
        • Capacity: Unlimited
        • Description: Write personal messages on cards to be placed into food bags for distribution to customers.

      We will be volunteering Saturday morning, May 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Greater Cleveland Food Bank, followed by lunch at Muldoon's Saloon, 1020 E. 185th Street. 

      Please register first through this website for the event, then you must also register through the food bank by following the below instructions, which include a special link for our group.

      Please wear closed-toe and closed-heel shoes. If this is your first time volunteering at the Food Bank, you will be asked to register as a volunteer as part of the project registration process through the Food Bank and to view a brief orientation film.

      Please follow these instructions to register at the Food Bank for our event:

      Ursuline Piazza directly addresses gaps in service for the HIV-positive community, targeting vulnerable populations living with HIV/AIDS. Many clients who are aging with HIV receive food stamps but cannot afford personal hygiene and paper products.

      Yale Day of Service volunteers are invited to donate items from the list below. Items can be dropped off between 9am and 1pm and volunteers can stay to help assemble the donation bags. 

      Alumni can enter the gates of the St. Augustine Medical Campus (7801 Detroit Avenue, 44102) by identifying the "Sister Susan" event and park within the facility. Directions to a room on the main floor will be posted at the entrance to the facility.
