      Jun 2
      3:00PM – 4:00PM
      Linsly-Chittenden Hall | Room: 102 — 63 High Street

Earth’s climate has always changed. But this time, it’s different. Given the complexity of the issue, however, it isn’t surprising that people have very different ways of thinking about and responding to the problem. By surveying over 50,000 Americans during the past decade and the global public more recently, the Yale Program on Climate Change Communication (YPCCC) has identified six distinct audiences who perceive climate change, its seriousness and its solutions in very different ways. Understanding these differences and why they exist can help us have constructive conversations about the issue and to find common ground.

Jennifer Marlon is a Research Scientist at Yale’s School of the Environment (YSE) and leads the Data Science team at the YPCCC. She designed the interactive Yale Climate Opinion Maps, the SASSY (Six Americas) segmentation tool and quiz, the Climate Opinion Factsheets, the CCAM Explorer, and other tools for the YPCCC. Jenn co-teaches Environmental Data Visualization & Communication at YSE, and Climate Change to Yale undergraduates as part of Biology, the World, and Us. She holds a PhD and MS in Geography from the University of Oregon, and a BS from the University at Albany, State University of New York.
